When I first met Ashley, I got the impression that she is a sensible, dependable, properly nice sort of person. Theeen, I spent the weekend with her in tents, cars and canoes (an ideal recipe to get to know anyone) and discovered that while those aforementioned characteristics still hold true, she has several wonderful surprise-cookie attributes to her persona as well (one of them being she makes fantastic chocolate chip cookies). I will parse these attributes out as we go, but I will go ahead and share one of the most striking yet not immediately obvious, which is that Ashley is dauntless. I think by the end of this you will understand why.

Meet Ashley

Ashley is from Warwick, Rhode Island and has been at UNC for about half a year. She doesn’t really follow sports on TV, probably in part because she is too busy doing her own, playing soccer and running half marathons (which I’d consider a pretty dauntless distance to run)!

What You Need to Know About Ashley

Ashley is a treasure to have around and therefore it is fitting that she be treasurer for HHA. Remember all those generous donations you made at this site to the worthwhile cause of HHA? (Thanks again!!) Well, those are being handled by Ashley. And no better person for it, because her personality type is the Defender (ISFJ) and (being dauntless) she will defend that money and make sure it goes to the right places.

What about her level of Spanish? Well, Ashley (like me) has only recently started learning Spanish. However, Ashley (unlike me) is incredibly driven and fluent in French (And she’s used those classroom-study-abroad French skills to officiate a friend’s wedding in French in France! Now that’s a signature dauntless move if I ever saw one!) Thus, it is not surprising that she is picking up Spanish muy rapido and from my much more slowly progressing perspective of Spanish comprehension, she is basically already fluent.

Though getting the opportunity to learn and practice Spanish is pretty cool, Ashley’s primary motivation for getting involved with HHA is being able to work in women’s health care. If she had to choose a specialty today, it would be OB-GYN. Why? Here’s what she has to say:

“Women are interesting! It’s an area of medicine where you can develop long-term relationships with patients and be there for some of the pivotal moments of their lives. I hope to be an advocate for my patients and use my voice for the betterment of healthcare.”

Fun Facts About Ashley

  • If you’re ever looking for somebody to holler out high-school throwback songs with for several hours, she’s the one.
  • In Honduras, Ashley is most excited to pretend to be a doctor (which the rest of us medical students are a little nervous about, but no surprise there, she’s dauntless, remember?)
  • She is planning to spend the rest of her summer visiting family, relaxing and traveling to Guatemala to practice her Spanish (and who knows, maybe officiate a wedding in Spanish while she’s at it)

And a quote for Ashley:

“Once you become fearless, life becomes limitless.”
