The HIC uses iLab for making training requests, equipment reservations and billing. If you have already created an iLab account for another core on campus you\u00a0do not<\/strong>\u00a0need to create another one.<\/p>\n\n

How To Set Up an iLab Account<\/h2>\n

If you are at UNC:<\/h3>\n
    \n
  1. Go to the HIC’s iLab website.<\/a><\/li>\n
  2. Click “Sign-Up” and follow the prompts for login with UNC onyen credentials to complete the request.<\/li>\n
  3. Alert your lab that you need financial authorization within iLab. This enables payment for your microscope training and usage.(Note:<\/strong> HIC staff do not have the ability to authorize your funds. If<\/span>\u00a0your PI <\/span>is unable to assign funding to your account, please <\/span>contact<\/span> coresupport@med.unc.edu<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/span>. <\/span>Additional<\/span><\/span> help can be found in this iLab <\/span><\/span><\/span>guide.<\/a><\/span>)<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/em><\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    If you are from outside of UNC:<\/h3>\n
      \n
    1. Go to the HIC’s iLab website.<\/li>\n
    2. Click “Sign-Up” follow the prompts for login when you do not have UNC onyen credentials for your current institution.<\/li>\n
    3. Obtain financial authorization to pay for microscope training and usage from your lab’s iLab manager. (Note:<\/strong> HIC staff do not have the ability to authorize your funds. If<\/span> your PI or lab manager <\/span>is unable to assign funding to your account, please check<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span> the iLab <\/span><\/span><\/span>guide.<\/a><\/span>)<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/em><\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/li>\n
    4. Non-UNC customers must also have a Recharge Core Agreement (RCA) with the HIC on file at the University (RCA’s for other cores is not sufficient). This RCA template<\/a> can be accepted without UNC signatory for immediate work initiation. Any changes require the UNC signature before work can be initiated, which can take several weeks.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
      \n

      How To Submit a Training Request<\/h2>\n

      For Light Microscopy Projects<\/h4>\n
        \n
      1. Go to the HIC’s iLab website.<\/li>\n
      2. Select the “Request Services” tab.<\/li>\n
      3. Scroll to \u201cRequest Light Microscopy Training\u201d and select the Initiate Request button on the right.<\/li>\n
      4. Or, if you know the equipment <\/span>you\u2019d<\/span> like to be trained on, <\/span>go <\/span>to the<\/span> \u201cSchedule Equipment\u201d <\/span>tab<\/span> and <\/span><\/span>click the \u201cInitiate training\u201d button by the system <\/span>you<\/span>\u2019<\/span>re<\/span> interested in.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
      5. This will direct you to complete a form that includes a link for you to directly schedule a consultation with core staff.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        For TEM-Based Projects<\/h4>\n
          \n
        1. Go to the HIC’s iLab website.<\/li>\n
        2. Select the “Request Services” tab.<\/li>\n
        3. Scroll to \u201cElectron Microscopy Request–training or service\u201d and select the Initiate Request button on the right.<\/li>\n
        4. This will direct you\u00a0to complete a form and then the core will contact you to schedule a consultation.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

          How To Book Time on the Equipment<\/h2>\n
            \n
          1. Go to the HIC\u2019s iLab website.<\/li>\n
          2. Select the Schedule Equipment tab<\/li>\n
          3. Scroll to the system you have been trained on, then select the View Schedule button to the right.<\/li>\n
          4. Select the time frame you would like to schedule your reservation.<\/li>\n
          5. A window will pop up that will allow you to verify your reservation details and provide payment information before saving the reservation.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

            How To Get After Hours Access<\/h2>\n

            After-hours access is a privilege granted if a UNC-CH user <\/span>demonstrates<\/span>\u00a0sufficient\u00a0<\/span>expertise<\/span>\u00a0and experience that HIC staff (and they) feel comfortable\u00a0<\/span>operating<\/span>\u00a0the microscope without staff\u00a0<\/span>assistance<\/span>. Please submit your request through iLab.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

            1. If you do not have a UNC SOM ID and are at UNC-CH, please contact Wendy<\/a> or Paul<\/a>.<\/li>\n
            2. Go to the HIC’s iLab website.<\/li>\n
