The performance management program provides a mechanism for communicating responsibilities and evaluating achievements. All permanent University staff are evaluated annually on their performance.<\/p>\n<h2>SHRA Performance Management<\/h2>\n<p>Performance appraisal information is one consideration in making other personnel decisions such as promotions, disciplinary actions, layoff determinations, and salary increases. Therefore, proper application of the performance management system is essential in the effective application of other personnel policies.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>SHRA Performance Appraisals <a class=\"external-link\" title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/hr\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/452\/2017\/09\/SHRA-PM-04-16.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">policy<\/a> and <a class=\"external-link\" title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/hr.unc.edu\/?s=SHRA+Performance+Management+tool+kit\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">toolkit<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/hr\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/452\/2021\/03\/SHRA-Performance-Management-March-2021.pptx-revised-3-22-21.pptx\">March 2021 Presentation Slides<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/heelstream.med.unc.edu\/Watch\/w8DPo36Q\">Video recording of March 2021 Presentation<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/hr\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/452\/2018\/03\/Final-SHRA-Performance-Management-Presentation-without-notes-3-7-18.pptx\">March 2018 Presentation Slides<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/panopto-web.med.unc.edu\/Panopto\/Pages\/Sessions\/List.aspx?folderID=e745b31c-4cd4-44a1-b507-4806b67febe5\">Video recording of March 2018 Presentation<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a class=\"internal-link\" title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/hr\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/452\/2018\/02\/Standardized-Performance-Goals.docx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">SOM Standardized Individual Goals Inventory<\/a><\/li>\n<li>The annual performance cycle runs from April 1 to March 31.<\/li>\n<li>The employee\u2019s work plan contains performance goals for the employee set by the supervisor and organizational values set by the Office of Human Resources.<\/li>\n<li>Work plans must be issued within 30 calendar days of the start of the cycle or the employee\u2019s start date.<\/li>\n<li>Performance expectations and appraisals are recorded on a standardized form, the Performance Management &amp; Competency Assessment Form.<\/li>\n<li>Performance goals and organizational values are rated on the performance appraisal using a three-point scale: Exceeding Expectations, Meeting Expectations, or Not Meeting Expectations.<\/li>\n<li>The annual overall performance rating for employees is rated using a five-point scale: Outstanding, Very Good, Good, Below Good, or Unsatisfactory.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>As part of the career banding system for SHRA permanent employees, supervisors must also conduct an annual <a class=\"external-link\" title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/hr.unc.edu\/files\/2017\/11\/ECA-1.doc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">employee competency assessment<\/a> along with the annual performance appraisal. Both are recorded on the Performance Management &amp; Competency Assessment Form.<\/p>\n<h2>EHRA Non-Faculty Performance Management<\/h2>\n<p>No standard form is required for EHRA Non-Faculty annual performance evaluation: Supervisors may use a suggested evaluation form available on the Human Resources website, may issue a letter to the employee, or may use some other comparable way of appraising the employee\u2019s performance.
