Physicians in the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill provide patient care in a variety of clinical settings across North Carolina. Most patients (98%) are drawn from within the State, with over 40% coming from the immediate five-county area. In this past year, physicians and residents have seen approximately 120,000 patients in Medicine off-campus clinics and 25% of all patients seen at UNC Health Care. We provide patients with primary and subspecialty diagnostic and health care services. Medicine faculty members perform world-renowned medical research that gives patients access to the latest technology and treatment advances.

Medicine physicians and residents know how to focus on one individual at a time, whether that patient has a complex disease or needs a comprehensive assessment and preventive care plan. All physicians work together as a team, ensuring each patient receives coordinated and appropriate medical attention.

In addition to our faculty on campus in Chapel Hill, over 450 Medicine faculty members are actively involved with North Carolina Area Health Education Centers (AHEC), whose mission it is to meet the State health and health workforce needs by providing educational programs in partnership with academic institutions, healthcare agencies, and other organizations committed to improving the health of the people of North Carolina.
