PhD Student

Department of Epidemiology

Jaymin is a PhD candidate in Epidemiology at the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health. He graduated from UNC with a BS in Biology and a BA in Environmental Studies. Jaymin also received his MPH in Epidemiology from Emory Rollins School of Public Health. His research interests lie in molecular epidemiology of malaria, specifically integrating advanced molecular methods and population genetics with conventional epidemiological approaches to better understand disease transmission, improve surveillance efforts and inform disease control measures.

Jaymin has been involved in developing field amenable molecular diagnostic tools for malaria, used microsatellites to track the source of malaria outbreaks, and used next-generation deep-sequencing technology to identify pathogenic strains of malaria-in-pregnancy to inform vaccine development efforts.

Jaymin has lived and worked in Uganda, India, Guatemala, and Thailand and collaborated with several of our partners at the National Institute of Malaria Research (NIMR) in India, the Institut de recherche pour le développement (IRD) in France, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
