Executive Dean Cristy Page, MD, MPH, spoke at a sold out International Women’s Day event on March 8 hosted by Inspiration lab, a Wilmington-based business organization for women.

In her remarks, Page emphasized the value of leaders following their passions to make an impact, the importance of achieving equity in healthcare, and helping to train the next generation of physicians and researchers who will improve the health and wellbeing of North Carolinians.

“It is a privilege that we can use our influence and lead the way to a more caring, equitable and better world,” she said.

Page also encouraged attendees to make time to take care of themselves in whatever ways they need, whether that is getting enough sleep, exercising, or spending time with a partner, friends, or family, in order to ensure they are taken care of and can then take care of others and lead in their organizations.

“Part of what keeps us going through hard times is looking for joy and applying ourselves for good,” Page said. “Be intentional and really look for those things that bring you joy.”
