John C. Hagedorn II, MD, has joined the department orthopaedics as a professor of orthopaedic surgery. Dr. Hagedorn will also serve as site director for UNC Hillsborough Hospital and as associate residency program director.
An orthopaedic trauma specialist, Dr. Hagedorn brings extensive experience in the care of complex fractures, limb reconstruction and the treatment of severely injured patients. His clinical interests include periarticular, pelvic and hip fractures, fracture nonunions and malunions, and orthopaedic care for older adults with fragility fractures.
Dr. Hagedorn earned his medical degree and completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at West Virginia University. He completed an orthopaedic traumatology fellowship at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, as well as the AO North America Martin Allgöwer Fellowship in orthopaedic traumatology at University Hospital Zürich in Switzerland.
In addition to his clinical expertise, Dr. Hagedorn is an accomplished educator and leader in orthopaedic surgery. His work includes orthopaedic surgical education, curriculum development and competency-based assessment. The department looks forward to the expertise and leadership he will bring to patient care, education and clinical operations at UNC Hillsborough Hospital.
