Reporting to the Senior Director of Faculty Development\u00a0in the Office of Faculty Affairs &amp; Leadership Development\u00a0(FALD),\u00a0the Director of the AOE\u00a0is responsible for\u00a0the oversight, coordination, and continuous improvement of the AOE.<\/p>\n<p>The Director of the AOE will lead\u00a0the AOE in advancing their mission to promote and support excellence in teaching;\u00a0to promote and fund curricular innovation, evidence-based curricular change, and a scholarly approach to the education mission\u00a0of the SOM;\u00a0and to provide a forum for education leadership.<\/p>\n<p>This is a 15% administrative leadership appointment with a four-year term, reviewed annually.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Key Responsibilities<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Preside at AOE meetings and at any meetings of the\u00a0AOE\u00a0Leadership Council<\/li>\n<li>Engage with the FALD team, attending monthly team meetings,\u00a0and the annual retreat<\/li>\n<li>Partner\u00a0with FALD colleagues to integrate\u00a0AOE\u00a0and\u00a0FALD programming and initiatives, develop and oversee the annual budget, and contribute to annual reporting efforts<\/li>\n<li>Assure the\u00a0successful\u00a0delivery of\u00a0AOE\u00a0activities\u00a0such as visiting professors, faculty development opportunities, grant awards, and the annual Evening of Scholarship<\/li>\n<li>Continuously\u00a0evaluate\u00a0the\u00a0leadership structure and propose\u00a0any changes\u00a0that could lead to\u00a0organizational improvements and effectiveness<\/li>\n<li>Annually examine\u00a0and revise\u00a0(if needed) the key roles and responsibilities for leadership positions within the AOE<\/li>\n<li>Coordinate\u00a0with the Novant\u00a0Faculty Development\u00a0Liaison\u00a0and\u00a0AOE Leadership Council to prioritize, assess, and meet preceptor development needs of Novant partners at both the Charlotte and Wilmington sites<\/li>\n<li>Assess\u00a0the effectiveness of AOE offerings and\u00a0recommend\u00a0any changes that are\u00a0indicated, including opportunities for increased alignment with FALD programming and initiatives<\/li>\n<li>Develop and disseminate scholarly products; contribute to growing the AOE\u2019s reputation nationally<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Minimum\u00a0Qualifications<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>MD, DO, MD\/PhD, or PhD with\u00a0demonstrated\u00a0qualifications and experience in medical, biomedical, and\/or and health professions education<\/li>\n<li>Faculty appointment in one of the UNC School of Medicine departments<\/li>\n<li>Active\u00a0member of the Academy of Educators\u00a0preferred<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrated record of educational leadership and\/or innovation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Interested applicants should\u00a0submit\u00a0the following materials no later than\u00a0<strong>June 26, 2026:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Cover Letter,<\/li>\n<li>Curriculum Vitae (CV), and<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/intranet\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/578\/2026\/06\/Department-Chair-Letter-of-Support.pdf\">Department Chair Affirmation of Support<\/a> It is important to download this form from the\u00a0SharePoint\u00a0site before filling\u00a0in\u00a0the required information.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Materials should be sent to both\u00a0Stephanie Brown, Chair of the Search Committee (<a href=\"mailto:stephanie_brown@med.unc.edu\">stephanie_brown@med.unc.edu<\/a>),\u00a0and\u00a0Gypsi\u00a0Hunter\u00a0(<a href=\"mailto:gypsi_hunter@med.unc.edu\">gypsi_hunter@med.unc.edu<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Search Committee:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Stephanie Brown, PhD &#8211; Chair of the Search Committee; Senior Director of Faculty Development, Office of Faculty Affairs &amp; Leadership Development<\/li>\n<li>Kelly Bossenbroek Fedoriw, MD &#8211; Assistant Dean for Clinical Curriculum, Office of Medical Student Education<\/li>\n<li>Eric Zwemer, MD, MEHP &#8211; Associate Director of Faculty Affairs and Advancement, Office of Faculty Affairs &amp; Leadership Development; Associate Chair for Faculty Affairs in Education, Department of Pediatrics<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The University of North Carolina School of Medicine\u00a0(SOM)\u00a0seeks\u00a0an innovative and collaborative educational leader to serve as the Director of the Academy of Educators\u00a0(AOE).
