Shannelle Campbell, MD, MPH, FACS, has been named assistant dean for admissions for the UNC School of Medicine, effective July 1.<\/p>\nShannelle Campbell, MD, MPH, FACS, has been named assistant dean for admissions for the UNC School of Medicine, effective July 1.<\/p>\n
Dr. Campbell currently serves as faculty director of admissions in the Offices of Medical Student Education and as assistant professor in the Department of Surgery. Her appointment builds on longstanding leadership in admissions, including service on the admissions committee, and as vice chair.<\/p>\n
A general surgeon and health policy-trained clinician who began her career in private practice, Dr. Campbell brings firsthand insight into the clinical and professional landscape facing today\u2019s physicians. This experience informs her commitment to advancing a fair, mission-aligned admissions process that identifies and selects applicants prepared to serve, lead, and advance our mission across North Carolina and beyond.<\/p>\n
Dr. Campbell brings a strong background in clinical care, medical education, and admissions leadership to this important role. She has been a key leader in faculty development, assessment quality, applicant experience, and student support across the educational continuum. She has already made meaningful contributions to admissions and medical student education, and we are confident she will continue to strengthen our efforts in this new role.<\/p>\n
She earned her MD and MPH from Yale University and completed her general surgery residency at UNC.<\/p>\n
