David Zvara, MD<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

David Zvara, MD, has announced that he will step down as chair of the Department of Anesthesiology, a role he has held since 2008. A search committee led by Stephanie Davis, MD, chair of the Department of Pediatrics, will begin work soon on finding the department\u2019s next chair and Zvara will remain in his role until the new chair begins their work anticipated sometime in the spring or summer of 2024.<\/p>\n

\u201cI will have served 16 years in this role by the time our new chair arrives,\u201d Zvara said. \u201cWe\u2019ve grown clinically, and we\u2019ve excelled academically in this time. Our physicians are leading in every discipline of anesthesiology. We boast two alumni who now are chairs at other prestigious institutions. I can only imagine where a new leader can take us next!\u201d<\/p>\n

In addition to his work as chair of the Department of Anesthesiology, Zvara has also served as the director of the Medical Center Ambulatory COVID Response Team and as COO of the UNC Faculty Practice, a role he has held since 2017. His subspecialty is cardiothoracic anesthesiology and his patient care interests focus on patient safety and quality improvement in all areas of anesthesiology care. As chair of the Department of Anesthesiology, Zvara oversaw important growth in services across the Triangle. As COO of UNCFP, Zvara is the physician leader of the Ambulatory Care Dyad Team and a member of the Hillsborough Hospital and Medical Office Building Executive Committee.<\/p>\n

Zvara did his education and training at The Ohio State University. He served in the U.S. Air Force as a physician anesthesiologist and was deployed during Operation Desert Storm. Prior to joining the faculty at UNC, he was a member of the faculty at Wake Forest University, where he rose to the rank of professor, and at The Ohio State University, where he also served as chair.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
