Kurt Gilliland, PhD, has been named the UNC School of Medicine\u2019s associate dean of educational effectiveness. He will begin his work in the role on June 1.<\/p>\n
In the role, Gilliland will provide leadership, oversight, monitoring, and execution of the assessment and evaluation processes for the medical education program leading to the MD degree; serve as a resource in the areas of measurement and programmatic accreditation requirements; and identify assessment strategies and instruments to improve academic programs within the School of Medicine.<\/p>\n
Gilliland currently serves as the associate dean for curriculum and an associate professor in the Department of Cell Biology and Physiology. In his role as Associate Dean for Curriculum, he has partnered with faculty in implementing curriculum change in the Foundation Phase in 2014 and 2023, founded the medical education Scholarly Concentration Program, started the Educational Mentoring Program for postdoctoral fellows, and developed a Master of Medical Science degree.<\/p>\n
Gilliland\u2019s research interests are focused on evaluating curriculum interventions as well as cataract formation in the lens of the eye.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
