{"id":6935,"date":"2023-08-28T15:25:13","date_gmt":"2023-08-28T19:25:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/intranet\/?p=6935"},"modified":"2023-08-29T15:26:14","modified_gmt":"2023-08-29T19:26:14","slug":"a-message-from-janet-hadar-and-dr-mauro","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/intranet\/2023\/08\/a-message-from-janet-hadar-and-dr-mauro\/","title":{"rendered":"A Message from Janet Hadar and Dr. Mauro"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>To our UNC Hospitals &amp; UNC School of Medicine Teammates,<\/p>\n<p>Today\u2019s events on the UNC-Chapel Hill campus were alarming.\u00a0Here\u2019s what we know and are able to share as of now:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The UNC-Chapel Hill campus shared information of an armed and dangerous person early Monday afternoon and locked down campus. UNC Hospitals followed with a lockdown shortly thereafter.<\/li>\n<li>We know from authorities that shots were fired in Caudill Laboratories, a campus building on South Road, and that tragically a University faculty member was killed. The suspect is now in custody.<\/li>\n<li>Right now, local, state and federal law enforcement agencies are working together on this investigation.<\/li>\n<li>Tomorrow, Tuesday, Aug. 29, UNC Hospitals and hospital-based clinics will continue normal operations serving our community.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It will likely be several days before we have a better idea of what occurred today. However, we know the damage of enduring a traumatic event is already done.<\/p>\n<p>We know your first instinct may be to reach out to each other. Please do that \u2013 but also take a moment to consider what\u00a0<i>you\u00a0<\/i>might need. Everyone manages trauma differently, so please\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unchealth.org\/for-unch-health-professionals\/well-being-for-unc-health-teammates\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-interception=\"off\"><u>look at the resources available<\/u><\/a>\u00a0to see what might be useful to you.<\/p>\n<p>As your teams talk about what happened (or what should have happened), please share those thoughts with your manager and ask that they escalate them through your leadership or via UNC Hospitals\u2019 Tiered Safety Huddles.<\/p>\n<p>Our leadership team is already reviewing how information came in and was disseminated during this event, how we managed as an organization, and how we can get better and ensure everyone\u2019s safety.
