The Offices of Medical Student Education is seeking outstanding clinical educators and clinician advisors for positions in the 2024-25 academic year.<\/p>\n

In the Foundation Phase, the pre-clinical period of medical student education, there are opportunities to lead small groups in two courses: a). Case-Based Learning (CBL) series (housed within the Medical Sciences courses) and b).\u00a0 Patient Centered Care (PCC).<\/p>\n

CBL facilitators are sought to work with students longitudinally on medical cases across the fall 2024 semester. In PCC, OMSE is seeking facilitators to longitudinally teach students skills necessary for competency with patients in clinical settings.<\/p>\n

Finally, OMSE also is seeking advisors for its Larry Keith Advisory College. These advisors provide longitudinal coaching for medical students from matriculation through graduation.<\/p>\n

Case-Based Learning:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Description<\/strong>: The OMSE is seeking physician educators who will serve as facilitators for the MS2 Fall case-based learning (CBL) component of the medical sciences course. Facilitation involves working with a group of 9 students longitudinally for the whole semester. Each week they work through cases that are part of the three medical science MS2 Fall courses (neurons to networks, life stages, and integrated systems). Facilitators are not expected to be content experts in these course areas, and do not directly teach the material, but facilitate the discussions and learning. Facilitators are expected to thoroughly review the facilitator guide prior to each session to be prepared to facilitate, and attend the weekly faculty development sessions on Mondays from 9-10am. Dates<\/strong>: Facilitators will need to be available for classes or fac dev on Mondays 9am-12pm and Wednesdays 10am-12pm from July 25 through December 18 2024. Prior to starting the role there will be additional faculty development times and you will have the opportunity to shadow or watch a recording of facilitation with one of the MS1 CBL groups currently ongoing.<\/p>\n

Support<\/strong>: This position is supported at 0.2 FTE for the Fall semester (7\/1 through 12\/31 2024), up to the UNC cap.<\/p>\n

Patient Centered Care:<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

Description<\/b><\/span>: The Office of Medical Student Education is seeking physician educators who will serve as facilitators for the Patient Centered Care (PCC) course.\u00a0 Physicians in this role will lead teaching sessions with a small group of students for one afternoon each week of the academic year over the course of 2 years (spanning all of Foundation Phase and the start of Application Phase).\u00a0 Each week during PCC, students learn important clinical skills, including taking a history, performing different aspects of the physical exam, writing notes, and giving oral presentations.\u00a0 They also work through written clinical cases to practice clinical reasoning.\u00a0 For several sessions each semester, PCC facilitators will take their students on the wards to interview and examine real patients.\u00a0 PCC facilitators are expected to facilitate learning and serve as professional role models for their students. PCC facilitators will prepare for each session by reviewing the tutor preparatory documents created by course leadership and attending faculty development sessions. PCC facilitators need to be available from 1-5pm each week on their assigned afternoon (either Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday) to attend the weekly faculty development sessions and then lead their small group sessions.\u00a0<\/span>PCC seeks tutors who can create a supportive learning environment for students and have a passion for education, especially as it relates to clinical skills and clinical reasoning.\u00a0 For more information on PCC facilitators <\/span> requirements and expectations, please see here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Larry Keith Advisory College<\/strong><\/p>\n

Description<\/strong>: The Offices of Medical Student Education is seeking advisors to join the Larry Keith Advisory College.<\/a> The advisors are responsible for developing longitudinal relationships with their students, tracking their academic progress and professional development, meeting with them at least once a semester at a minimum, being available to them via email\/in person when questions arise, attending weekly faculty development sessions with other advisors and working collaboratively with faculty and other student support systems in place to ensure student success.<\/p>\n

Support<\/strong>: Advisor positions are supervised by the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs and supported at 0.2 FTE.<\/p>\n

Dates:<\/strong> The advisors will need to be available to start in January of 2024. The Faculty Development Sessions are generally Thursdays from 12pm-1pm.<\/p>\n
