Seeks Circulation Course Co-director"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"s3\"><span class=\"s2\">The Offices of Medical Student Education (OMSE) seeks a<\/span> <span class=\"s2\">co-director for the <\/span><span class=\"s2\">cardiology block of the Circulation Course during the first semester<\/span> <span class=\"s2\">of Foundation Phase<\/span><span class=\"s2\">. \u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s2\">Circulation is the third course in the Foundation Phase and is composed of both benign hematology and cardiology content. \u00a0 <\/span><span class=\"s2\">The course occurs yearly, beginning around <\/span><span class=\"s2\">the last <\/span><span class=\"s2\">week of October and ending before the winter holiday break. \u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s2\">The course directors work with the Medical Science directors<\/span><span class=\"s2\">, foundation sciences coil directors,<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> and the Foundation Phase team to oversee<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> the curricular content, organization, assessments, and evaluations for <\/span><span class=\"s2\">Circulation. \u00a0The course directors are expected to teach <\/span><span class=\"s2\">the majority of<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> the content during the large group interactive sessions throughout the course<\/span><span class=\"s2\">. <\/span><span class=\"s2\">The co-director must be committed to curriculum evaluation with the aim of continual <\/span><span class=\"s2\">quality <\/span><span class=\"s2\">improvement<\/span><span class=\"s2\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s3\"><span class=\"s2\">The new co-director will partner with the <\/span><span class=\"s2\">existing Foundation Phase team<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> and the hematology block director<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> with respect to the design, management, evaluation, and enhancement of the course<\/span><span class=\"s2\">.<\/span> <span class=\"s2\">Responsibiliti<\/span><span class=\"s2\">es<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> will include, but are not limited to the following: <\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"s6\"><span class=\"s5\">Outcomes<\/span><span class=\"s2\">: Develo<\/span><span class=\"s2\">p<\/span><span class=\"s2\">, design<\/span><span class=\"s2\">,<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> and implemen<\/span><span class=\"s2\">t<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> course level objectives linked to the school\u2019s educational objectives and competencies. \u00a0Align<\/span> <span class=\"s2\">course content with SOM objectives. <\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"s6\"><span class=\"s5\">Content and Assessment<\/span><span class=\"s2\">: Develop curricular content, methods of pedagogy and medical student assessment that are appropriate for achievement of the course and school\u2019s educational objectives. <\/span><span class=\"s2\">This includes working with the medical science directors to create the block NBME exam and the end of semester cumulative exams. \u00a0Additionally, the course director will work closely with the Case Based Learning (CBL) leaders to refine the CBL cases and the Clinical Reasoning Exam. \u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"s6\"><span class=\"s5\">Integration and Coordination<\/span><span class=\"s2\">: Sequence course content <\/span><span class=\"s2\">with an eye towards integration with other Foundation Phase Courses.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"s6\"><span class=\"s5\">Review and Improvement<\/span><span class=\"s2\">: Participate in regular review and revision of the course using multiple measures including national norms of accomplishment and student feedback under the auspices of the <\/span><span class=\"s2\">Foundation <\/span><span class=\"s2\">Phase committee and Education Committee. \u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s2\">Work<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> closely with <\/span><span class=\"s2\">the Foundation Phase team<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> to continually improve and innovate the course.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"s6\"><span class=\"s5\">Supervision and <\/span><span class=\"s5\">Teaching<\/span><span class=\"s2\">: <\/span><span class=\"s2\">The course directors are expected to teach <\/span><span class=\"s2\">the majority of<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> the block specific clinical content <\/span><span class=\"s2\">themselves <\/span><span class=\"s2\">and work closely with the foundational science coil directors to ensure inclusion in teaching of the foundational science material. <\/span><span class=\"s2\">We expect the teaching to be done using the Peer Accelerated Learning model or other interactive methods agreed upon by the Medical Science team.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"s6\"><span class=\"s5\">Administration<\/span><span class=\"s2\">: Ensure that SOM educational policies are being followed within the cours<\/span><span class=\"s2\">e<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> e.g.<\/span><span class=\"s2\">,<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> formative feedback, narrative assessment, grade timeliness, etc. <\/span>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"s9\"><span class=\"s2\">Work with Medical Science directors to create remediation and make up academic plans for students needing to make up or repeat the course during the summer.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"s9\"><span class=\"s2\">Update teaching materials yearly<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"s9\"><span class=\"s2\">Serve on the <\/span><span class=\"s2\">Foundation<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> Phase Committee as a voting member.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"s9\"><span class=\"s2\">Attend<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> all <\/span><span class=\"s2\">Foundation<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> Phase meetings (<\/span><span class=\"s2\">currently scheduled the first Thursday<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> of the month from <\/span><span class=\"s2\">3:30<\/span><span class=\"s2\">-5<\/span><span class=\"s2\">pm<\/span><span class=\"s2\">).<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"s9\"><span class=\"s2\">Communicate and implement decisions made at <\/span><span class=\"s2\">Foundation<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> Phase meetings<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> with relevant instructors in the course<\/span><span class=\"s2\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"s9\"><span class=\"s2\">Ensure th<\/span><span class=\"s2\">e Foundation Phase team is<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> well-informed of policies and plans and provide support as necessary.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"s9\"><span class=\"s2\">Hold regular office hours and communicate with students who need additional assistance regularly.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"s9\"><span class=\"s2\">Attend faculty development sessions as scheduled (currently two scheduled during the Spring 2024), attend at least two CBL sessions spring 2024 and 2 PALS sessions spring of 2024.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"s3\"><span class=\"s2\">Preference will be given to candidates with fellowship training in adult and\/or pediatric cardiology<\/span><span class=\"s2\">. <\/span><span class=\"s2\">The co-director will receive 20% salary support up to a<\/span><span class=\"s2\">n educational<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> salary cap on an annual basis. Ideal candidates will be <\/span><span class=\"s2\">interviewed with a final selection being made <\/span><span class=\"s2\">the end of March<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> with<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> salary support beginning July 2024<\/span><span class=\"s2\">.
