The\u00a0Center\u00a0for\u00a0Faculty\u00a0Excellence<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0(CFE) is\u00a0recruiting for our Spring 2025 Faculty Mentor Training<\/a>.<\/strong> An adaptation of CIMER’s\u00a0nationally recognized Entering Mentoring <\/em>curriculum, the CFE’s Faculty Mentor Training emphasizes evidence-based mentoring competencies and practices to support mentees of all backgrounds at UNC. Over 180 faculty mentors<\/strong> have completed the CFE\u2019s Faculty Mentor Training since Fall 2019.<\/p>\n

The Spring 2025 Faculty Mentor Training begins Friday, January 17<\/strong>. Interested faculty can register online.<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

About the CFE’s Faculty Mentor Training<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Faculty Mentor Training is a six-part, fully in-person training to enhance faculty mentoring skills and to promote accessible, effective mentoring across campus. The core curriculum adapts six core mentoring competencies from the Center for the Improvement of Mentored Experiences in Research\u2019s<\/a> <\/strong>(CIMER) nationally recognized Entering Mentoring <\/em>curriculum. Faculty develop a mentoring philosophy and competency in aligning expectations, maintaining effective communication, supporting mentees of all backgrounds, fostering independence, and promoting professional development. Sessions\u00a0 include guided discussion, evidence-based practices, case studies, as well as print and digital resources. All sessions will be in person, with lunch provided, to foster community among participants.<\/p>\n

Who Should Register<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Faculty Mentor Training is open to all faculty seeking to enhance their mentoring skills. Faculty who mentor early-career colleagues, as well as faculty applying for NIH, NSF, and other funding mechanisms that require mentoring development plans, are strongly encouraged to register.<\/p>\n
