She will assume the role on June 1 from Steve Bogdewic, PhD, who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/intranet\/2024\/10\/bogdewic-announces-retirement\/\">announced his retirement in Fall of 2024<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Smith has served as associate dean for faculty affairs and leadership development since 2023. She is also a professor in the department of urology where she also serves as the vice Chair of Academic Affairs. Dr. Smith is a member of the Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center where she was director of urologic oncology until 2023.<\/p>\n<p>She has been a Tar Heel since she was an undergraduate. Dr. Smith attended medical school at the UNC School of Medicine and stayed for a urologic residency in Chapel Hill before joining the faculty as an assistant professor specializing in urologic oncology in 2012.<\/p>\n<p>Smith has received several honors and awards recognizing her skills as a researcher and leader, including the Yang Family Biomedical Scholars Award, the Hettleman Prize for Artistic &amp; Scholarly Achievement, and the UNC School of Medicine Early Career Achievement Award.
