Kim Nichols, MD, MBA, has announced that she will stepping down from her role as senior associate dean for medical student education; her last day in the role will June 30, 2025. Anthony Passannante, MD, will serve as interim starting July 1.<\/p>\n
In addition to serving as senior associate dean since 2022, Dr. Nichols is a professor of anesthesiology. She has served in several leadership roles in her time at UNC, including division chief of general anesthesia, assistant residency program director, general OR and PACU medical student rotation director, and medical director of Preop and PACU.<\/p>\n
Passannante currently serves as assistant dean for admissions for the UNC School of Medicine. He is a professor of anesthesiology and has recently served as interim chair of the department of anesthesiology.<\/p>\n
Passannante earned his MD from SUNY Health Sciences Center at Syracuse and arrived at UNC-Chapel Hill in 1985, where he completed consecutive internal medicine and anesthesiology residencies, including a chief residency in anesthesiology. He joined the Department of Anesthesiology\u2019s faculty in July 1991.<\/p>\n
