The Indiana University School of Medicine has named Jenny Ting, PhD, William Rand Kenan, Jr. Distinguished Professor of Genetics, the recipient of the 2026 Mark Brothers Award. This honor recognizes an internationally renowned scientist of Asian descent for exceptional contributions to biomedical or clinical science.<\/p>\n
Dr. Ting, who also served as Co-Director of the Inflammatory Diseases Institute and Director of the Center for Translational Immunology at UNC, was selected from a highly competitive pool of candidates for her groundbreaking research and transformative impact on the field of immunology. Her pioneering work has advanced our understanding of innate immunity, the inflammasome, and the NLR family, with discoveries that have shaped the direction of biomedical science and led to new therapeutic approaches for cancer, autoimmune, and infectious diseases.<\/p>\n
Throughout her distinguished career, Dr. Ting has published over 360 scientific papers in leading journals, earned numerous prestigious awards, and been elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the National Academy of Sciences, and the American Association of Immunologists, where she served as president from 2020 to 2021. She is also recognized for her outstanding mentorship and leadership within the scientific community.<\/p>\n
As part of the award, Dr. Ting will visit IU School of Medicine in Indianapolis next spring, to present her research and engage with faculty, students, residents, and fellows. The visit will include a special presentation, a commemorative plaque, and a $5,000 prize.<\/p>\n
