His pipe cold and sleeping in its box.<\/p>\n

Nimble fingers lacking the artist\u2019s brush<\/p>\n

They\u2019ve forgotten how to grasp.<\/p>\n

The smell of his cologne washed away<\/p>\n

By the stale scent of the nursing home.<\/p>\n

Green puree instead of food.<\/p>\n

A spoon without a knife.<\/p>\n

Blue eyes seeing blurs,<\/p>\n

Nameless shadows from his past.<\/p>\n

Silent smiles, hollow winks.<\/p>\n

But will he speak?<\/p>\n

When he faces me, I know:<\/p>\n
