Color hanging in the air<br \/>\nlike bony fingers strangling my throat.<br \/>\nHarshly squeezing my carotids.<\/p>\n<p class=\"right\">\u201c\u2026They bark. At night\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"left\">\u201cPlease. Your arm. Keep still.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"center\">\u201c\u2026The birds. I hear them bark\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"center\">Paper gown crinkling, crackling,<br \/>\nlike soap suds popping<br \/>\nin the kitchen drain.<\/p>\n<p class=\"right\">\u201c\u2026Hoppity hoppity hop.<br \/>\nBirdieee. Birdieeeeee\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"center\">Chilled breath of the tile floor,<br \/>\nclawing its way<br \/>\nthrough my bones.<\/p>\n<p class=\"right\">\u201c\u2026Doctor, do I have the feathers?\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201c110 over 80. Write that down.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"left\">\u201c\u2026Feathers. I have the feathers.<br \/>\n<i>They chirp\u2026<\/i>\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"center\">Blank stare. Empty space in the room.<br \/>\nTime tunnel<br \/>\nperhaps.<\/p>\n<p class=\"right\">\u201c\u2026Shhhhhhhhh<br \/>\nit\u2019s the dementia\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"left\">\u201cDraw me a clock with hands at 11:00.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"center\">Tight air. Rubber banded.<br \/>\nSaran wrap stretched<br \/>\nacross my face.<\/p>\n<p class=\"left\">\u201cPlease the clock.
