The edge,<\/p>\n

where I lie so often<\/p>\n

dripping with sweat<\/p>\n

and aching with a promise I<\/p>\n

don\u2019t know<\/p>\n

if I can fulfill.<\/p>\n

Where I sit<\/p>\n

in front of my laptop,<\/p>\n

amidst the silence of a<\/p>\n

testing room.<\/p>\n

Where I wait,<\/p>\n

Refreshing<\/p>\n

the same screen that strained my eyes<\/p>\n

for one,<\/p>\n

two hours?<\/p>\n

Time is lost.<\/p>\n

Time is lost<\/p>\n

just like it was last night,<\/p>\n

when I thought<\/p>\n

I had eight hours<\/p>\n

but it only seemed<\/p>\n

like two.<\/p>\n

The edge<\/p>\n

is where I live these days\u2014<\/p>\n

the edge<\/p>\n

of the toilet<\/p>\n

when I\u2019m so nauseous<\/p>\n

I can only cough<\/p>\n

until I vomit,<\/p>\n

can only stand<\/p>\n

to find wobbly knees<\/p>\n

which pull me down<\/p>\n

to the tile again.<\/p>\n

The rolled edge<\/p>\n

of my pill bottle\u2014<\/p>\n

the orange plastic<\/p>\n

in my fingertips.<\/p>\n

It was supposed to help\u2014<\/p>\n

How have I found myself<\/p>\n

so addicted?<\/p>\n

Release one edge,<\/p>\n

discover another.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s the nature of my affliction.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s not in my center\u2014<\/p>\n

it\u2019s all around me.<\/p>\n

It is not my core,<\/p>\n

but it lurks<\/p>\n

at every corner.<\/p>\n

Edges don\u2019t define,<\/p>\n

but isn\u2019t it<\/p>\n

funny<\/p>\n
