We will emphasize conversational medical Spanish and will focus on medical terminology and developing students\u2019 ability to interact with Spanish speaking patients.<\/p>\n<p><strong>To apply you must:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Complete the <a href=\"https:\/\/unc.az1.qualtrics.com\/jfe\/form\/SV_9ojC6sAWJBdmhn0\">application<\/a> by <b>May 17, 2026 (Opens on April 1, 2026)<\/b><\/li>\n<li>Take a telephone fluency assessment <b>no later than May 29, 2026<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div role=\"tablist\" class=\"panel-group accordion-blue oscitas-bootstrap-container\" id=\"unc-accordion-0\">\n\n<div class=\"panel panel-default oscitas-bootstrap-container\">\n\n    <div id=\"panel-heading-details-0-0\" class=\"panel-heading oscitas-bootstrap-container\" role=\"tab\">\n\n        <h2 class=\"panel-title oscitas-bootstrap-container\">\n\n            <button class=\"accordion-toggle oscitas-bootstrap-container collapsed\" \n                id = \"button-details-0-0\"\n                data-toggle=\"collapse\"\n                data-parent=\"#unc-accordion-0\"    \n                aria-controls=\"#details-0-0\"  \n                aria-expanded=\"true\" \n                href=\"#details-0-0\">\n                Completing the Application            <\/button>\n\n        <\/h2>\n\n    <\/div>\n\n    <div id=\"details-0-0\" class=\"panel-collapse collapse in oscitas-bootstrap-container\">\n\n        <div class=\"panel-body oscitas-bootstrap-container\">\n<p><strong>The application will open on April 1, 2026<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>After submitting your application, please email\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:maria_sears@med.unc.edu\">Maria Sears<\/a>\u00a0to confirm it was received.\u00a0Within a few days, you will be sent a separate email about how to complete Step 2.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: bold;text-transform: upper\">Please read the following information regarding the essay questions before you start the application<\/p>\n<p>The application contains 2 essay questions. Your response should be between 300-600 words per essay. Please review this information to better prepare your responses:<\/p>\n<h3>Why are you applying to CAMPOS?<\/h3>\n<p>Please explain your reason(s) for applying to this program. Tell us about yourself and sell yourself: what makes you stand out from the other applicants. Share your prior experiences that have influenced this decision, whether personal, educational, work-related or local, national or at the international level.<\/p>\n<h3>Outcome\u00a0of participation in CAMPOS?<\/h3>\n<p>Comment on how you see yourself applying the newly learned skills you obtain or improve during CAMPOS in your career.\u00a0 This can be at the individual level (e.g. caring for individual patients) or with Spanish-speaking communities at the local, national or international level. It can also be as a researcher, administrator or a leader in medical education, public health, health policy or other.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n    <\/div>\n        \n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"panel panel-default oscitas-bootstrap-container\">\n\n    <div id=\"panel-heading-details-0-1\" class=\"panel-heading oscitas-bootstrap-container\" role=\"tab\">\n\n        <h2 class=\"panel-title oscitas-bootstrap-container\">\n\n            <button class=\"accordion-toggle oscitas-bootstrap-container collapsed\" \n                id = \"button-details-0-1\"\n                data-toggle=\"collapse\"\n                data-parent=\"#unc-accordion-0\"    \n                aria-controls=\"#details-0-1\"  \n                aria-expanded=\"true\" \n                href=\"#details-0-1\">\n                Take a Telephone Fluency Assessment            <\/button>\n\n        <\/h2>\n\n    <\/div>\n\n    <div id=\"details-0-1\" class=\"panel-collapse collapse in oscitas-bootstrap-container\">\n\n        <div class=\"panel-body oscitas-bootstrap-container\">\nThis will be a long distance phone call for which you will not be reimbursed. The interview only takes 10-15 minutes. We highly recommend that you do not take this assessment while you are out of the country (USA). If you miss your appointment or the call is dropped it may not be possible for you to retake the exam. To prevent dropped calls, students should have good wifi connection or use a land line! More details about the assessment will be emailed to you.<\/p>\n<p>The assessment is conducted by ALTA Language Services. The purpose of the assessment is to learn how well you speak Spanish and how well you understand the language. You will have a conversation with a native speaker, so, of course, there are no right or wrong answers! The conversation can last up to 15 minutes. You might be expected to know a variety of verb tenses. The prompts may be related to medicine, but you are not expected to have extensive medical knowledge. You should answer as best you can as a non-medical person.<br \/>\n<\/div>\n\n    <\/div>\n        \n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"panel panel-default oscitas-bootstrap-container\">\n\n    <div id=\"panel-heading-details-0-2\" class=\"panel-heading oscitas-bootstrap-container\" role=\"tab\">\n\n        <h2 class=\"panel-title oscitas-bootstrap-container\">\n\n            <button class=\"accordion-toggle oscitas-bootstrap-container collapsed\" \n                id = \"button-details-0-2\"\n                data-toggle=\"collapse\"\n                data-parent=\"#unc-accordion-0\"    \n                aria-controls=\"#details-0-2\"  \n                aria-expanded=\"true\" \n                href=\"#details-0-2\">\n                Selection            <\/button>\n\n        <\/h2>\n\n    <\/div>\n\n    <div id=\"details-0-2\" class=\"panel-collapse collapse in oscitas-bootstrap-container\">\n\n        <div class=\"panel-body oscitas-bootstrap-container\">\n<p>A selection committee will meet in early June to review your application and select the new class of CAMPOS students. Applicants will be notified by email about their status prior to arrival to medical school.
