Central Programs
Each student will rotate through three, 16-week courses: Care of Specific Populations (CSP); Hospital, Interventional and Surgical Care (HISC); and Community Based Longitudinal Care (CBLC). Each student will be assigned to start in one of the three courses and complete the other courses in subsequent trimesters. Throughout the year, Central Program students will take part in a longitudinal course known as Social and Health System 4 that meets once a month in Chapel Hill. Clinical placements for courses include Greensboro Region, Raleigh/Wake Region, and Cross Regional (a combination of location assignments that include Chapel Hill, RTP, and Triad); student preference for site placement will be considered.
Care of Specific Populations
Five weeks in/outpatient psychiatry
Five weeks inpatient pediatrics
Five weeks obstetrics/gynecology
One week of assessments for obstetrics and gynecology
Hospital, Interventional & Surgical Care
Two, 4-week blocks adult inpatient and family medicine
Four weeks of general surgery and two, 2-week sub-specialty surgery rotations
Community Based Longitudinal Care
16 weeks of longitudinal experiences in adult and pediatric ambulatory clinics
with student-selected experiences in specialty settings
Social and Health Systems 4
Monthly, day-long sessions, where all students convene
in Chapel Hill for small group sessions and large group presentations
