{"id":29,"date":"2023-07-25T14:14:45","date_gmt":"2023-07-25T14:14:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/md\/curriculum\/curriculum-overview\/individualization-phase\/"},"modified":"2026-04-15T18:14:21","modified_gmt":"2026-04-15T18:14:21","slug":"individualization-phase","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/md\/curriculum\/individualization-phase\/","title":{"rendered":"Individualization Phase (TEC 2.0)"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Individualization Phase Requirements<\/h2>\n<p>Prior to beginning the Individualization Phase, all students must:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Successfully complete and pass all coursework in the Application Phase<\/li>\n<li>Complete the end of Application Phase competency assessments in March of the Application Phase year OR plan to complete the end of Application Phase competency assessments in June of the Individualization Phase year<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Course Structures and Assessments<\/h2>\n<p>During the 13 months of the Individualization Phase, students will develop individual core clinical interests and skills with a focus on future career plans. Students have many options to individualize their learning experience based on their career goals, interests, and unique needs for clinical skills development.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/md\/policies\/#Student_Advancement\">TEC 2.0 Individualization Phase Requirements<\/a> are as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Two four-week Acting Internship selectives<\/li>\n<li>One four-week Critical Care selective<\/li>\n<li>Three four-week elective courses or equivalent combination of two and\/or four-week elective courses<\/li>\n<li>One two-week Neurology selective<\/li>\n<li>Science of Medicine (longitudinal course)<\/li>\n<li>Social and Health Systems 5 (longitudinal course)<\/li>\n<li>Transition to Residency (2 weeks)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Each course must be a discrete experience (one course cannot fulfill two requirements).
