The National Health Service Corps (NHSC) Loan Repayment Program (LRP) offers fully trained primary care physicians loan repayment funds in return for working in designated sites. Full-time service can provide up to $75,000 (primary care physicians) or $50,000 (for all others) for a two-year initial term. Starting in 2024, the NHSC loan repayment programs are also providing a one-time enhancement award of $5,000 for physicians that indicate having a proficiency in Spanish. NHSC loan repayment funds are exempt from federal income and employment taxes.

Physicians must be a United States citizen (U.S. born or naturalized) or a United States national, eligible to participate in the Medicare, Medicaid, and the State Children’s Health Insurance Program, fully trained and licensed to practice in the NHSC-eligible discipline and state in which you are applying to serve, and a physician in an eligible discipline with qualified student loan debt for education that led to your degree.
