One-Time Scholarships for Matriculated Students

Matriculated students are encouraged to apply for a one-year Medical Alumni Loyalty Fund Scholarship for the upcoming academic year. These awards are made possible through the generosity of UNC School of Medicine alumni who are committed to supporting the next generation of Carolina physicians.

Applications are reviewed by a committee that includes representatives from Student Affairs, Financial Services, Admissions, Alumni Affairs, and the UNC Health Foundation, who evaluate each applicant based on the following criteria:

  • Academic achievement
  • Leadership qualities
  • Demonstrated financial need
  • Commitment to service

Eligible students must enroll in the standard curriculum and be in good academic and professional standing* at the time of application and throughout the award period.

How to Apply

To apply, students must complete the Loyalty Fund Scholarship Application Form, which includes a brief personal statement and required documentation.

Recipients are typically notified during the summer and are expected to:

  • Remain in good standing with the School of Medicine,
  • Correspond with alumni donors through thank-you notes or emails, and
  • Participate in one to two alumni events during the academic year.

Scholarships are awarded for one academic year only. Current recipients MUST reapply annually to be considered for renewal.

The deadline to apply is 11:59 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 23.

* Please be advised the School of Medicine reserves the right to rescind this scholarship and to recoup any payments made pursuant to the award if you are found responsible for violating a University policy, including but not limited to, the University’s Policy on Prohibited Discrimination, Harassment, and Related Misconduct or the University’s Honor Code. As a condition of receiving this scholarship, you agree to inform the School of Medicine in a timely manner of allegations of University policy violations or criminal charges involving a felony or a crime of violence.
