Number of Reduced Enrolled Hours<\/h3>\n

As part of the University of North Carolina System-wide initiative, tuition will be billed on a per-credit-hour basis, up to 9 credit hours.<\/p>\n

Students who are opting to complete an enrichment course outside of the standard curriculum may be eligible for a reduced tuition rate. Student fees will continue to be charged at the full rate, thus allowing students to benefit from student fee-related services. Registration for one 6.0 credit hours MD enrichment course will allow for continuous enrollment for financial aid and student loan deferment eligibility. The SOM must approve the 6.0 credit hours.<\/p>\n

Health Insurance<\/h3>\n

Health insurance is required of all medical students at UNC Chapel Hill School of Medicine<\/a>. Students are automatically enrolled in the UNC Health Insurance Plan or can opt out if they provide proof that insurance has been purchased elsewhere.<\/p>\n

Insurance provided by UNC is billed with tuition and fees. For more information about Health Insurance, visit https:\/\/www.bluecrossnc.com\/members\/student-blue<\/a> and select UNC to evaluate if you would like to enroll or opt out.<\/p>\n

Additions to the Standard Cost of Attendance<\/h2>\n

Additional expenses may be included in the standard cost of attendance (COA).\u00a0 A Revision Form along with receipts are required for review.<\/p>\n

Items that can<\/em><\/span> be included:<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Child Care Expenses<\/h4>\n

You may request that reasonable childcare costs be included in your budget. If you are a single parent, the full cost can be added. If you are married, half the cost can be added.<\/p>\n

Uninsured Medical, Dental, and Optical Expenses<\/h4>\n

Required health care costs not covered by insurance.<\/p>\n

Automobile Repairs<\/h4>\n

Repairs to keep your car in safe running condition. Routine maintenance and cosmetic repairs will not be approved.<\/p>\n

Commuting Expenses<\/h4>\n

If you are completing an elective outside of the Raleigh, Durham, or Chapel Hill area, you may apply for additional aid for gas costs.<\/p>\n

Items that cannot<\/em><\/span> be included:<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Relocation Expenses<\/h4>\n

Incoming Students: Moving costs, including your first and last month\u2019s rent, security deposits, furnishings, labor, or shipping expenses. Incoming students should plan carefully for the cost of moving. If you need a letter stating that you’ll be receiving financial aid to sign a lease for an apartment, please contact the Financial Aid Office.<\/p>\n

Consumer Debt<\/h4>\n

Consumer debt cannot be included in your budget and should be repaid before you enroll.<\/p>\n

Family Member Cost of Living<\/h4>\n

The Cost of Attendance cannot include expenses for family members. This budget is designed for only you as a student, regardless of your marital or family status.
