MS1 Community Health Track Information Session

November 19, 2024 @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm

Join Us for an Information Session on the Community Health Track (merger of the FIRST Program and the Kenan Rural Scholars Program)!

Are you interested in practicing community-based medicine in North Carolina? Do you want a focused curriculum in rural and community care, along with potential scholarship support for your dedication to serving rural or medically underserved communities? Are you considering the option to complete medical school in 3 years instead of 4?

The UNC School of Medicine is excited to announce the new Community Health Track—a merger of the FIRST Program (Fully Integrated Readiness for Service Training) and the Kenan Rural Scholars Program. This track is designed to prepare students to work in rural and underserved communities across North Carolina.

Students can choose from:

  • A non-accelerated (4-year)pathway, or
  • An accelerated (3-year)pathway with directed pathway to affiliated residency programs in family medicine, general surgery, psychiatry, pediatrics, med-peds, and internal medicine (now with an option to accelerate in MS2 year)

Additionally, Scholarship Opportunities providing financial support based on specialty, location, and rural commitment within NC are available for both non-accelerated and accelerated students!
