However, we recognize that misunderstandings between individuals do occur, particularly in the high-stress, low-sleep situations in which learners often find themselves. Mistreatment can take many forms, ranging from subtle belittlement to blatant hostility. Mistreatment may cause a variety of emotional responses in a student, from anger to isolation and embarrassment. Fear of retaliation can be a major component. It can be difficult for students to report mistreatment, so the School of Medicine has created several pathways to do so.<\/p>\n<p>Please note, reports of discrimination or harassment based on protected status, including sexual assault or violence, interpersonal violence, or stalking, should be made to the <a href=\"https:\/\/eoc.unc.edu\/report-an-incident\/\">University Compliance Office (UCO)<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Submitting a Learner Mistreatment, Learning Environment, or Learner Professionalism Concern<\/h2>\n<p>All reports will be managed in accordance with established policies including but not limited to those of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/md\/policies#Learning_Environment_and_Student_Mistreatmen\">School of Medicine&#8217;s Learning Environment and Student Mistreatment Policy<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/hr\/\">School of Medicine Human Resources<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uncmedicalcenter.org\/uncmc\/about\/human-resources\/\">UNC Health Human Resources<\/a>, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/eoc.unc.edu\/\">University Compliance Office (UCO)<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"btn btn-lg btn-primary\" href=\"https:\/\/unc.az1.qualtrics.com\/jfe\/form\/SV_2cpGoZDRuojj5nU\">Submit a Concern<\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Alternative Options<\/h3>\n<p>Students can alternatively contact any of the following individuals in the event they perceive student mistreatment:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Director for the Learning Environment, <a href=\"mailto:kristy_borawski@med.unc.edu\">Dr. Kristy Borawski<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Course Directors or Campus Directors<\/li>\n<li>Associate Dean for Student Affairs, <a class=\"email-link\" href=\"mailto:alice_chuang@med.unc.edu?subject=Mistreatment Inquiry\/Report\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dr. Alice Chuang<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Health Sciences Associate Chair for Student Services, <a href=\"mailto:eileen_burker@med.unc.edu\">Dr. Eileen Burker<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/ombuds.unc.edu\/\">University Ombuds Office<\/a> in Chapel Hill<\/li>\n<li>Your college advisor<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/md\/student-affairs\/for-current-students\/advising\/campus-advisors\/\">Campus Advisors<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Learning Environment Student Evaluations<\/h2>\n<p>In Application and Individualization Phases, students can evaluate learning environment and indicate number and type of incidences on rotation\/course evaluations. Further, all course directors inquire about learning environment and potential mistreatment at the time of mid-block\/course feedback.
