This is a valuable opportunity to practice your interview skills in a supportive, low-pressure environment while receiving both verbal and written feedback to guide your preparation. Students have consistently shared positive feedback about this experience, and participation is highly encouraged.<\/li>\n<li>Each mock interview will last approximately 30 minutes, and faculty will complete an electronic evaluation form for each student. Please plan to participate from the location where you intend to conduct your actual interviews, and dress as you would for a real residency interview.<\/li>\n<li>Sign-Ups for Mock Interviews are typically offered to students in August. The interviews are held September \u2013 October.<\/li>\n<li>Once you are paired with the interviewer, you will be responsible for sending out an Outlook calendar request, zoom link, as well as your updated CV and specialty choice.<\/li>\n<li>The most comprehensive interview resource, including common interview questions, is the AAMC guide: <a href=\"https:\/\/students-residents.aamc.org\/apply-smart-residency\/interview-resources-residency-applicants\">AAMC interview resource<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Electives Counseling with Deans<\/h2>\n<p>Are you unsure which electives to choose or how they align with your career goals? Meet one-on-one or in group sessions with a Student Affairs Dean for personalized guidance on elective selection. These sessions are designed to help you make informed decisions based on your interests, specialty considerations, and residency planning. Whether you&#8217;re exploring options or narrowing down choices, the Deans can offer valuable insights and help you create a schedule that supports both your academic success and long-term goals. Sessions are available from September through February Please <a href=\"mailto:sandy_williams@med.unc.edu\">contact Sandy Williams<\/a> for scheduling links.<\/p>\n<h2>Application Phase Career Day<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Held in August, Career Day is tailored for Application Phase students who are approximately halfway through their core clerkship year. The day begins with a morning session that provides a high-level overview of the residency Match process and guidance on Individualization Phase course selection and scheduling. Career Goal Advisors, general Advisors, and Faculty are welcome\u2014and encouraged\u2014to attend this session, which is a required component for all students.<\/li>\n<li>In the afternoon, we offer specialty-specific breakout sessions, giving students the opportunity to connect with residents and faculty from the fields that interest them most. With over 30 specialties available\u2014including options for those interested in Couples Matching, the MD\/MBA and MD\/MPH dual degree programs, the Undecided path, Leaves of Absence, Alternative Medical Careers, and Military service\u2014Career Day is a valuable opportunity for students to explore diverse career paths and gain meaningful insights into their future options.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Application Phase Career Development Series<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Designed to support and prepare MS3 students for the residency application cycle, the series involves three days and includes morning professional development workshops with afternoon exploration. These sessions provide an opportunity to meet faculty and residents, ask questions, and begin building professional connections.<\/li>\n<li>Between August-May, the specialties, as listed on our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/md\/student-affairs\/for-current-students\/advising\/career-goal-advising\/\">Career Goal Advising<\/a> site, will be held on certain Thursdays from Noon-1 pm.<\/li>\n<li>Foundation Phase students may register for the Fall and Spring release. Sessions are recorded and uploaded to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/md\/student-affairs\/for-current-students\/advising\/career-goal-advising\/\">Career Goal Advising<\/a> site under each specialty.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Advisory College Lunch Sessions<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Several times each semester, the Advisory College hosts lunchtime sessions for first-, second-, and third-year students. These gatherings take place on select Thursdays from 12:00\u20131:00 PM, with room locations to be announced. Each session is tailored to address topics relevant to your stage in medical school, featuring insights from more senior students who share their experiences and advice. The sessions conclude with an open discussion\u2014an opportunity to ask questions, voice concerns, or simply connect with peers.<\/li>\n<li>Lunch is provided; we just ask that you bring your own beverage. Please refer to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/md\/curriculum\/curriculum-overview\/academic-calendars\/\">academic calendar<\/a> for specific dates and locations. We look forward to seeing you there!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Meetings with Advisors<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Students have seven <strong>mandatory<\/strong> meetings with their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.med.unc.edu\/md\/student-affairs\/advisory-colleges\/about\/faculty-advisors\/\">advisors<\/a>.
