\u201cWhen things are broken, it is our job to figure out how to fix them,\u201d Adelman said. \u201cIt is up to physicians to create systems that work better.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Since graduating from UNC, Adelman has lived out this mantra.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As an emergency physician and emergency department medical director for several years, he recognized a significant need in the field. With over 6,000 emergency rooms across the United States, it was nearly impossible to map them out and determine which groups staff each ER \u2014 vital information for emergency physicians considering where to work.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI kept saying this thing should exist. Eventually, if you say this thing should exist enough times, it’s probably time to jump in and make it exist,\u201d Adelman said. \u201cThat was why I created Ivy Clinicians.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Ivy Clinicians<\/a>, a software company based in Raleigh, North Carolina, simplifies the emergency medicine job search through transparency. Co-founded by Adelman and Matt Simpson in 2021, the company drew upon insights from travel nursing during the pandemic.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Companies like Incredible Health, Vivian Health and Nomad Health have made it easier for nurses to identify the best employers based on pay and working conditions. Drawing from this model, Ivy Clinicians collected essential data to create a user-friendly platform for emergency physicians.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhat we ended up with was a Zillow-like experience where it\u2019s really easy to get all the information you want about the emergency medicine job market<\/span>,\u201d Adelman said.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Despite facing numerous challenges along the way, Adelman noted that software design is a continuous process of building and iterating, while never reaching a final version.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The response from the industry has been overwhelmingly positive. Emergency physicians report a sense of relief, as they can now visualize what it\u2019s like to work in a specific emergency department while benefiting from a simplified application process and salary transparency.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Employers appreciate the efficiency the platform brings to hiring. Instead of reaching out to nearby doctors without knowing their interest, physicians can now apply directly, generating inbound applications for employers.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt brings a level of competition and flexibility to the market that previously wasn\u2019t there,\u201d Adelman said. \u201cEmergency physicians have appreciated that. On the employer side, it\u2019s all about saving time and money.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Adelman\u2019s time at UNC immersed him in an environment dedicated to serving the needs of North Carolinians and others, a commitment that has stayed with him.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re a part of something much bigger than ourselves,\u201d Adelman said. \u201cThat really got infused into us from day one at the UNC School of Medicine. I really bring that ethos into my entrepreneurial work as well as my advocacy work.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Today, Adelman and Ivy Clinicians continue to grow. While he previously worked at Wilson Medical Center, he now practices five shifts a month in Wyoming and authors the Emergency Medicine Workforce Newsletter.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

He remains connected to the Carolina community, serving as the secretary for the UNC School of Medicine Alumni Association. Adelman speaks with pride about Ivy Clinicians\u2019 growth over the past three years, but perhaps his greatest pride comes from upholding the values of a Tar Heel doctor<\/a>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m proud to be associated with such a great institution,\u201d Adelman said. \u201cThere\u2019s no institution that I\u2019ve been a part of that\u2019s as good as teaching the next generation how to be great physicians and caretakers of our community than the University of North Carolina.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
