The UNC Medical Center Heart Valve Clinic shares the UNC Health Care System vision of offering care\u00a0to the patients of North Carolina, and to those living across the country beyond our\u00a0state’s\u00a0borders.\u00a0Our valve clinic welcomes patients seeking consultation and treatment for their structural heart conditions. Patients with “stiff” heart valves, “leaky” heart valves, genetic “holes in the heart,” and many other abnormalities are treated by our interdisciplinary team. We offer innovative minimally invasive treatments including\u00a0TAVR<\/a>\u00a0(transcatheter aortic valve replacement) for severe aortic stenosis, and\u00a0MitraClip<\/a>\u00a0for severe mitral regurgitation.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Patients benefit greatly when they can be evaluated by a multidisciplinary team, who then together decide on the best treatment option and provide the highest level of care. Patients are seen in our Valve Clinic by interventional cardiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and nurse coordinators in order to provide seamless, convenient, and comprehensive care.<\/p>\n Patients are then reviewed at a weekly multidisciplinary team meeting to finalize treatment plans with input from the referring and\/or primary care physician. By pooling knowledge, expertise, and resources, all options are evaluated, allowing the heart team to provide the best patient care.<\/p>\n Patients and their families are at the center of these discussions, with the patient guiding their care.
