Collin Smith, MD, PhD

Collin is originally from England and graduated with honors from the University of South Carolina with a degree in biology. Collin joined the UNC MD/PhD program and his work focused on modeling the effects of the immunosuppressive cytokine interleukin 10 (IL-10) in autoimmune neuropathy. He has also worked within the Department of Dermatology at UNC to create a catalog of cutaneous histology obtained by the inpatient consult service. He has served as a founding member of the UNC Advocates for Inclusion in Medicine and Science and as the elected UNC representative to the Society for Advancement of Chicanos/Hispanics and Native Americans (SACNAS) Diversity in Science conference. Collin speaks Jamaican Creole and Japanese and enjoys creative writing, Japanese language and culture, anime, cars, weightlifting, astronomy and gardens. After his preliminary year, Collin will be staying at UNC in our Dermatology residency program.
