Bone Marrow and Stem Cell Transplantation, Leukemia and Lymphoma
Research and Clinical Interests
My research interests involve clinical trials investigating novel conditioning regimens for both autologous and allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation, focused primarily in the management of lymphomas. Additionally, I seek to minimize infection risks following transplantation via clinical study of optimization of infection prophylaxis based on immune recovery following transplantation.
I actively participate in the NHLBI/NCI sponsored Blood and Marrow Transplant Clinical Trials Network (BMT CTN) and served as the national protocol officer and/or local PI for 3 clinical trials for lymphoma in that capacity. In addition, I am the Scientific Director for the Infection and Immune Reconstitution Working Committee of the Center for International Blood and Marrow Transplant Registry (CIBMTR). I have served as PI on 19 different clinical trials in transplantation.
In addition to my ongoing research, I have lead or contributed to several other activities to advance the field of hematopoietic cell transplantation. I am the co-chair of the Emerging Leaders Subcommittee of the BMT CTN and previously served as a member of the BMT CTN Infection Committee and Toxicity and Supportive Care Committee. I am a current Associate Editor for the journal Bone Marrow Transplantation and a past editorial board member for the Journal of Clinical Oncology.
While at my prior institution, I collaborated with colleagues in Information Technology to develop a functional, adaptable database, BMT Research Analysis and Informatics Network (BRAIN), to allow rapid integration of data from electronic health records for use by the institution and rapid reporting to fulfill federal reporting requirements for all transplant patients. I initiated the umbilical cord blood transplant program and also served as the Director of BMT Clinical Research, Chair of the Medicine Safety Committee, and Chair of the Clinical Research Action Committee in addition to 5+ years on the Scientific Review Committee.
