Mason was born in Central Texas and is proud to call the small town of Belton home. He graduated from Rice University, with a major in anthropology and minor in biochemistry. He met his wife Emily–who is also a UNC internal medicine resident–at Rice, where he says that he convinced her to marry him. While attending medical school at Texas A&M, he was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society. Mason loves doing everything outdoors (trail running, triathlons, disc golf), obsessing over coffee, finding the best BBQ, and tinkering with his bikes. He is excited to be at UNC, and what he calls a displaced Texan who will root for the Cowboys, Aggies, and Rangers from afar. He also wants to pursue a specialty in cardiology.
