Medical School: UNC
Patrick is from Raleigh, North Carolina and graduated from the University of North Carolina with Honors in Biology. After graduation, he worked as an Efficiency Coordinator with Raleigh Neurology Associates and in this role implemented strategies to improve clinic workflow, facilitated efficient onboarding of new physicians to the group, and initiated and managed practice-wide efficiency projects. As a medical student at UNC, Patrick has continued to focus on improving care with innovations and efficiency. He created simulated models of the human eye to practice indirect ophthalmoscopy with scleral depression and slit-lamp examination and is currently exploring the use of machine learning within Ophthalmology by using conventional neural networks to predict the progression of ocular pathology. He has also used his understanding of software project management to consult on a variety of medical software projects that are now on the market. He has been actively engaged in research and was selected to participate in the Howard Holderness Distinguished Medical Scholars Program. He has served as the Ophthalmology clinic director and clinic coordinator for the student run clinic, and co-founded an organization aimed at improving vision screening services for elementary school children. After completion of his preliminary year in medicine, Patrick will be staying at UNC for his Ophthalmology residency. Patrick enjoys Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, bouldering, snowboarding, cello, graphic design, 3D printing and animation, and artificial intelligence.
