The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill has been recognized as one of the “Best Global Universities for Endocrinology and Metabolism” by U.S. News and World Report.

“We are very excited to take this opportunity to celebrate the research strengths in diabetes, nutrition, and obesity across the University,” said Elizabeth Mayer-Davis, PhD, RD, Cary C. Boshamer Distinguished Professor of Nutrition and Medicine and Co-Director of the Nutrition Obesity Research Center (NORC) at UNC-CH. “These strengths are demonstrated by the important research undertaken by the members of the UNC NORC and the North Carolina Diabetes Research Center,” Mayer-Davis said.

“This recognition is an indication of the breadth and depth of expertise in basic, clinical, population, and translational research in obesity, diabetes, metabolism, and endocrinology at UNC-Chapel Hill,” said John B. Buse, MD, PhD, Verne S. Caviness Distinguished Professor of Medicine and one of the Principal Investigators for the North Carolina Diabetes Research Center (NCDRC).

Funded continuously by NIH/NIDDK since 1999, the UNC NORC is specifically designed to enhance the efficiency, productivity, effectiveness and multidisciplinary nature of nutrition- and obesity-related research. The NCDRC was funded by NIH/NIDDK in 2020 with the goal of creating “connectivity in the diabetes research community, thereby fostering new advances in basic and translational diabetes research.”
