DESCRIPTION:Dr. Burks will address anxieties families have concerning peanut allergy\, how to respond to a reaction\, and will describe the current research and treatments. In his Chair’s Corner podcast with Dr. Falk\, Dr. Burks explains “You have to ingest the food to have serious life-threatening reaction—it’s not touching it\, it’s not smelling it\, it’s not sitting next to somebody in school or a ballgame…That’s not going to cause an allergic reaction—you have to eat the food. That’s the biggest thing for a family to understand.” \nDr. Wesley Burks is the Curnen Distinguished Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at UNC and the Executive Dean for the School of Medicine. DESCRIPTION:Sidney Smith is a professor of medicine\, an active clinical cardiologist and a clinical researcher. He is a past president of the American Heart Association and a world-recognized expert on developing national and international guidelines for assessment of cardiovascular risk and for treatment of cardiovascular disorders including hypertension\, cholesterol abnormalities\, and acute coronary syndromes. \nAt UNC\, he performs invasive cardiology procedures to assist with the management of a broad variety of cardiovascular problems\, including coronary heart disease and valvular heart disease. \nHe also sees patients for the prevention and treatment of coronary heart disease and then management valvular heart disease.
