DESCRIPTION:About Book Club\nThe LGBTQ Center Book Club is a twice-monthly meeting of lit nerds and casual readers who love to discuss books\, fanfic\, and other readings with LGBTQIA+ themes. . We meet on a pattern of discussing things we love/late to read on the 1st Friday and meeting to discuss the group’s chosen works on the 3rd Friday. DESCRIPTION:Trans Talk Tuesday\n\n\n\n\n\nLocation:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nZoom – Contact Facilitator for Link\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn LGBTIQ spaces do you feel like the T is left out?\nWould you like to connect with folks around topics of gender identity and gender expression?\nAre you questioning your gender identity and hoping to talk to other questioning folks?\nWould you like to share your knowledge and expertise in regards to navigating systems that don’t often recognize diversity within gender?\n\nJoin the LGBTQ Center’s peer support/discussion group for campus and community members that identify as transgender\, genderqueer\, or gender-questioning. This space is meant to provide community and connection amongst folks on the basis of gender identity. All students\, staff\, faculty\, community members with these identities are welcome. \nNote to Allies\nWe have been asked if allies are welcome. As this space is not meant to be an educational space where people have to explain their identities\, we ask that people who do not identify as part of the transgender community (i.e.\, cisgender allies) not attend. Instead\, please consider taking advantage of our educational programs and/or resources for supportive families or friends. \nAccommodations for Social Distancing\nTrans Talk Tuesday will be moving online for now. SUMMARY:Virtual Medicine Grand Rounds - Ethan Basch\, MD\, MSc\, "Patient-Reported Outcomes for Symptom and Adverse Event Monitoring in Oncology."
DESCRIPTION:Ethan Basch\, MD\, MSc \nDr. Ethan Basch is Physician-in-Chief of the North Carolina Cancer Hospital and Chief of Oncology at the University North Carolina\, where he is the Richard M. Goldberg Distinguished Professor in Medical Oncology and Professor of Health Policy & Management. He has devoted his career to bringing the patient voice into cancer care delivery and drug development processes. His research group established that up to half of patients’ symptomatic adverse events go undetected in clinical trials\, and that patient-reported outcome questionnaires substantially improve detection. His team determined that integrating web-based patient-reported symptoms into oncology clinical practice improves clinical outcomes\, including survival\, and reduces health service utilization. His group created a system for the National Cancer Institute to collect patient-reported AEs during cancer trials called the ‘PRO-CTCAE.’ Dr. Basch is involved in efforts to bring PROs into comparative effectiveness research\, routine care\, and quality improvement. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO)\, an Associate Editor at JAMA\, and a prior member of the Board of Scientific Advisors for the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and the Methodology Committee of the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI).

DESCRIPTION:David Scrase\, MD\nDavid R. Scrase\, MD was appointed as the Secretary Designate of the Human Services Department by Governor\, Michelle Lujan-Grisham\, soon after her election in November 2018. \nDr. Scrase is a Board Certified Internist and Geriatrician\, and at the time of his appointment was the Interim Division Chief for General Internal Medicine and the Chief of Geriatrics at UNM. His first love and understood calling is as a primary care physician\, and he has continuously cared for patients for over 30 years\, despite concurrent service in administrative roles. He continues to see patients while serving as Secretary of the Human Services Department. \nDr. Scrase has held a variety of administrative positions\, including nine years in medical education\, as well as numerous healthcare executive positions in Michigan and New Mexico. Since moving to New Mexico more than 20 years ago\, he has been active in many New Mexico public policy committees and community organizations\, including four years as Director and Treasurer of Equality New Mexico and as a member of the Board of Menaul School in Albuquerque. He served on Governor Richardson’s Insure New Mexico! Committee and Health Care for New Mexicans Committee\, on the national Ambulatory Quality Association setting quality metrics for professional practice\, and on the Executive Committee of the New Mexico Association of Commerce and Industry. He worked closely with the New Mexico Medicaid program for the three years prior to his appointment as Secretary\, working to enhance the treatment of Hepatitis C for Medicaid members and to improve quality and reduce hospital readmissions in all New Mexico nursing facilities.
