DESCRIPTION:Inpatient Chief: Jacob Amburn\, MD\nJacob Amburn grew up in a military family and moved around the country throughout his childhood. He graduated with a degree in Biochemistry\, Cellular\, and Molecular Biology from the University of Tennessee\, Knoxville and took his talents across the state of Tennessee to the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis for medical school before making his way to Chapel Hill for residency. Here he has found a passion for oncology and teaching\, and after his chief year\, he plans to pursue a fellowship in hematology and oncology and continue on in a career in academic medicine with an emphasis on medical education. His wife is a chief resident in Emergency Medicine at Duke\, and when not in the hospital they enjoy exploring all of the restaurants the Triangle has to offer\, having recently enjoyed their 100th unique restaurant in the area.\n\n\nMedicine-Pediatrics Chief: Emma Bick\, MD\nEmma Bick is a Chapel Hill native and life long Tar Heel fan. She attended Williams College where she majored in Mathematics with a minor in Public Health before returning to UNC for her MD and MPH. While at UNC she was very involved in the student run free clinic (SHAC). She decided to stay at UNC for residency\, drawn to its strong Med-Peds tradition and amazing Med-Peds faculty as well as the supportive and inclusive community. She is delighted to give back to the program and follow in the footsteps of the former med peds chiefs whom she admires so much.  Following training\, Emma plans to pursue a fellowship in Adult Pulmonology and Critical Care. In her free time she enjoys spending time outdoors with her corgi\, Alis\, hosting dinner parties\, and taking day trips to the beach. \n\nOutpatient Chief: Christopher Lee\, MD\nChristopher Lee is from Indianapolis\, IN and attended Wheaton College\, where he majored in both Spanish and Applied Health Science. He graduated from the Indiana University School of Medicine prior to moving to North Carolina to compete his residency in Internal Medicine and now serves as the Ambulatory Chief Resident for the program. Following his chief residency year\, he plans to pursue a fellowship in gastroenterology and plans to remain active in medical education and research. In his free time\, he is an avid runner and enjoys other hobbies such as fly fishing\, hiking\, photography\, cooking\, and traveling. \nInpatient Chief: Portia Nleya\, MD\nPortia Nleya was born in Bulawayo\, Zimbabwe\, but moved to the United States when she was eight. Portia has spent most of her life in North Carolina. She attended UNC for college\, where she studied Biology\, and later earned a Master of Public Health with a concentration in Epidemiology at IU-Bloomington. Before returning to UNC for medical school\, Portia worked as a public health advisor for the CDC in Richmond\, Virginia\, focusing on community outreach and immigrant health. Portia was excited to match at UNC for her Internal Medicine Residency\, making her a triple Tar Heel. She looks forward to her role as inpatient chief\, engaging in education at all levels and fostering an open environment. After her chief year\, Portia plans to continue her career in academic primary care\, with a focus on being a clinician-educator. In her free time\, she enjoys board games\, playing the guitar\, videography\, and is an avid film enthusiast. \nWakeMed Chief: Ryan Searcy\, MD\nRyan Searcy grew up in North Carolina where he later attended UNC and received his bachelor’s in biology. He loved Chapel Hill and everything the Triangle has to offer\, leading him to stay at UNC for medical school\, where he was inducted into the AOA Honor Society and was active in student government. He solidified his status as a tarheel “Lifer” when he decided to stay at UNC for residency\, drawn to the resident-led culture and focus on quality patient care above all else. He is excited to be continuing his journey at UNC this year as the Wake Med Chief in Raleigh. During his free time\, Ryan enjoys traveling\, trying new restaurants around the Triangle\, and watching Carolina sports (Go Heels!).

DESCRIPTION:George (Rick) Stouffer\, MD is the Ernest and Hazel Craige Distinguished Professor of Medicine and Professor of Biomedical Engineering and serves as the Chief of Cardiology\, Physician in Chief of the Heart and Vascular Service Line and Co-Director of the McAllister Heart Institute. He is an interventional cardiologist with basic science research interests in atherosclerosis and smooth muscle cell growth regulation and clinical research interests in precision medicine for cardiology\, renal denervation\, renal artery stenosis and disparities in access to cardiovascular care. \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n \nAlan Hinderliter is a Professor of Medicine in the Division of Cardiology at the University of North Carolina.  His principal clinical interests are hypertension\, echocardiography\, valvular heart disease\, and preventive cardiology. He is a hypertension specialist and sees patients with high blood pressure that is difficult to control in the multidisciplinary UNC Hypertension Clinic. He also serves as the medical director of the UNC Hospitals echocardiography laboratory. His research has focused on the effects of exercise\, diet\, and weight loss on high blood pressure\, novel therapies for resistant hypertension\, and the relationships of high blood pressure to cardiovascular structure and function. \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n \nDr Raven Voora is a Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Nephrology and Hypertension at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. She completed her Nephrology Fellowship training at the University of Pennsylvania. While at UNC\, she helped to develop the UNC Hypertension Clinic which has been certified by the AHA as a Hypertension Center of Excellence. In addition to work in hypertension\, Dr Voora is the Associate Program Director for the Nephrology Fellowship Training Program.

DESCRIPTION:Dr. Brian Klausner has spent his career advocating for patients and driving quality improvement. He joined WakeMed Primary Care in 2011 after working for Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program as the medical director of their Boston Medical Center outpatient clinic. \nDr. Klausner serves as Medical Director for WakeMed’s Community Population Health program\, which works to improve the health of uninsured and homeless patient populations. As medical director\, he drives collaboration with community partners to ensure patients are connected with a medical home and get the resources they need\, whether it is blood pressure medication\, counseling\, housing or legal assistance. He also serves as Chief Medical Officer of WakeMed Key Community Care\, where he advocates for enhancing the quality and coordination of care while reducing costs. \nDr. Klausner earned his medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine and completed his internal medicine residency at University of Chicago Hospitals. He was recognized as a 2017 Health Care Hero by the Triangle Business Journal and received the 2019 T. Reginald Harris Award\, awarded each year by the North Carolina Medical Society to a physicians with outstanding achievements in health care quality and service to the medical community.

DESCRIPTION:Dr. Robert A. Harrington is a cardiologist and serves as the Stephen and Suzanne Weiss Dean of Weill Cornell Medicine and Provost for Medical Affairs of Cornell University. His research areas of focus include evaluating antithrombotic therapies to treat acute ischemic heart disease and to minimize the acute complications of percutaneous coronary procedures and trying to better understand and improve upon the methodology of clinical research\, including the use of technologies to facilitate the conduct of clinical trials. A previous American Heart Association (AHA) president\, Dr. Harrington remains a member of AHA’s Board of Directors. He is also an elected member of the Association of American Physicians\, the Association of University Cardiologists\, and the National Academy of Medicine. In addition\, he has served as a chair and member of the US Food and Drug Administration Cardiovascular and Renal Drugs Advisory Committee. Among his numerous awards and recognition\, Dr. Harrington was named a Master of the American College of Cardiology in 2016\, was awarded the AHA’s Clinical Research Prize in 2017\, and earned the AHA Council on Clinical Cardiology (CLCD) Distinguished Achievement Award in 2022. In 2022\, he was awarded the Stokes Medal\, and in 2023\, Honorary Fellowship in the Irish Cardiac Society. From the AHA he received both the 2024 Chairman’s Award and the Gold Heart Award for his leadership. The Cardiovascular Research Foundation recognized him with the 2024 TCT (Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics) Career Achievement Award as an outstanding individual who has made extraordinary contributions to the field of interventional cardiology and made a transformative impact on cardiovascular care through clinical excellence\, pioneering research and mentorship

SUMMARY:DOM Medicine Grand Rounds: Carey Levine presents: "The Art of Medicine"
DESCRIPTION:Cary Levine is Professor of Contemporary Art History. He received his Ph.D. from the Graduate Center\, City University of New York\, and was a recipient of a year-long J. Paul Getty Postdoctoral Research Fellowship. His first book\, Pay for Your Pleasures: Mike Kelley\, Paul McCarthy\, Raymond Pettibon (University of Chicago Press\, 2013) examines the work of these artists in terms of post-60s politics\, popular culture\, mass media\, and strategies of the grotesque. His second book\, The Future is Present: Art\, Technology\, and the Work of Mobile Image (with Philip Glahn)\, focuses on an important telecommunications art collective and the intersections of art\, politics\, and technology. This book received the 2025 Frank Jewitt Mather Award\, one of the most prestigious distinctions in the field. He was also the 2020 recipient of the Art Journal Award and a 2014 recipient of the Hettleman Prize for Scholarly Achievement at UNC. He has lectured nationally and internationally\, has written for various magazines and museum catalogues\, and previously worked at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

DESCRIPTION:Mary Beth Westerman is a urologic oncologist and associate professor of urology at UNC Chapel Hill. She is also a member of the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center. She treats patients with all genitourinary malignancies and has an interest in innovative methods of health care delivery and optimization across systems. She is a member of the American Urologic Association Practice Guideline committee and was a member of the 2025 AUA microhematuria guideline amendment panel.
