DESCRIPTION:Trans Talk Tuesday\n\n\n\n\n\nLocation:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nZoom – Contact Facilitator for Link\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn LGBTIQ spaces do you feel like the T is left out?\nWould you like to connect with folks around topics of gender identity and gender expression?\nAre you questioning your gender identity and hoping to talk to other questioning folks?\nWould you like to share your knowledge and expertise in regards to navigating systems that don’t often recognize diversity within gender?\n\nJoin the LGBTQ Center’s peer support/discussion group for campus and community members that identify as transgender\, genderqueer\, or gender-questioning. This space is meant to provide community and connection amongst folks on the basis of gender identity. All students\, staff\, faculty\, community members with these identities are welcome. \nNote to Allies\nWe have been asked if allies are welcome. As this space is not meant to be an educational space where people have to explain their identities\, we ask that people who do not identify as part of the transgender community (i.e.\, cisgender allies) not attend. Instead\, please consider taking advantage of our educational programs and/or resources for supportive families or friends. \nAccommodations for Social Distancing\nTrans Talk Tuesday will be moving online for now. We’ll be meeting the first and third Tuesdays at 6:30 (NOT 6:15 like we usually do) on Zoom\, a videoconferencing platform with an online\, desktop\, and mobile app. If you’d like to receive the Zoom info each week\, please sign up for the Trans Talk Tuesday email list by emailing the facilitator\, Anole\, at anole.halper@gmail.com.

SUMMARY:Virtual Medicine Grand Rounds - Kimberly Manning\, MD\, “Intersecting Pandemics: The Crises of Racism and COVID-19.”
DESCRIPTION:Kimberly Manning\, MD\nKimberly D. Manning\, MD is a general internist/hospitalist who serves as Associate Vice Chair of Diversity\, Equity\, and Inclusion for the Department of Medicine at Emory University School of Medicine. Manning was recently promoted to Professor of Medicine and additionally serves as residency program director for the Transitional Year Residency Program at Emory. Beyond her roles in the Department of Medicine\, she has been a society small group advisor at the Emory since their curriculum reform in 2007. Dr. Manning continues to hold this position and currently co-leads the Semmelweis Society—one of the four academic houses in the medical school. \n  \nManning’s academic achievements include numerous institutional\, regional and national teaching awards. She has a strong passion for building and strengthening diverse clinical learning environments as well as cultivating psychologically safe learning climates. In 2018\, she was awarded the prestigious ACGME Parker J. Palmer Courage To Teach Award—given to only 9 program directors across all ACGME residency programs in the US. At Emory\, she has received the Evangeline Papageorge Award\, The Golden Apple Teaching Award\, and the Juha P. Kokko Teaching Award—the highest teaching awards in the School of Medicine\, Grady Hospital\, and Emory’s Internal Medicine Residency Program\, respectively. \n  \nAn avid teacher\, she regularly speaks at community events\, on podcasts and has taught at several National and International Medical conferences as an invited lecturer. But most of all\, she enjoys the everyday of teaching patients\, students\, and residents at Grady Memorial Hospital. Additionally\, she is a prolific writer and authors a blog called “Reflections of a Grady Doctor” which was named in 2010 by ‘O’ The Oprah Magazine as one of 4 medical blogs you should read. DESCRIPTION:About Book Club\nThe LGBTQ Center Book Club is a twice-monthly meeting of lit nerds and casual readers who love to discuss books\, fanfic\, and other readings with LGBTQIA+ themes. . We meet on a pattern of discussing things we love/late to read on the 1st Friday and meeting to discuss the group’s chosen works on the 3rd Friday.
