SUMMARY:Medicine Grand Rounds\, Alan Hinderliter\, MD and Rick Stouffer\, MD: "Renal Denervation for the Treatment of Hypertension"
DESCRIPTION:Alan Hinderliter\, MD\n  \nDr. Hinderliter’s principal clinical interests are hypertension\, echocardiography\, valvular heart disease\, and preventive cardiology. He is a hypertension specialist and sees patients with high blood pressure that is difficult to control in the multidisciplinary UNC Hypertension Clinic. He serves as the medical director of the UNC Hospitals echocardiography laboratory and provides imaging support to the structural heart disease program.  \nDr. Hinderliter’s research has focused on the effects of exercise\, diet\, and weight loss on high blood pressure\, novel therapies for resistant hypertension\, and the relationships of high blood pressure to cardiovascular structure and function. His research laboratory is actively engaged in studying the effects of disease processes\, pharmacologic therapies\, and lifestyle interventions on vascular endothelial function\, and on investigating the cardiovascular manifestations of air pollution. \n  \nRick Stouffer\, MD\n  \nGeorge A. Stouffer\, MD is the Ernest and Hazel Craige Distinguished Professor of Medicine\, Professor of Biomedical Engineering\, Chief of Cardiology and Co-director of the McAllister Heart Institute at the University of North Carolina\, Chapel Hill\, North Carolina\, USA. He is actively involved in clinical and basic science research. His basic science research is in the areas of regulation of smooth muscle cell growth\, thrombin generation\, and renal artery stenosis. His clinical research is in coronary artery disease\, percutaneous coronary intervention and myocardial infarction and he has very involved in research examining the optimal use of CYP2C19 genotyping to selected anti-platelet therapy. He is the author or editor of four textbooks and more than 180 scientific publications and has received research funding from NIH\, AHA and numerous foundations.

DESCRIPTION:About Book Club\nThe LGBTQ Center Book Club is a twice-monthly meeting of lit nerds and casual readers who love to discuss books\, fanfic\, and other readings with LGBTQIA+ themes. . We meet on a pattern of discussing things we love/late to read on the 1st Friday and meeting to discuss the group’s chosen works on the 3rd Friday. We stay in touch and discuss readings using a dedicated GroupMe chat in between meetings. \n\nFall 2020 Schedule\n1st and 3rd Friday starting 8/21 from 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm starting with an interest meeting on 8/21/2020. \nSeptember 4th: Reading recs meeting.
