SUMMARY:Medicine Grands Rounds - Catherine Coombs\, MD\, MS - "Clonal Hematopoiesis and Implications on Health: No Longer Just for Hematologists."
DESCRIPTION:  \n \nDr. Coombs graduated from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine\, followed by internal medicine residency at Duke University Medical Center and fellowship in hematology and oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center before taking a faculty position as an assistant professor at UNC in 2016. Her major areas of interest are in leukemia precursor states including clonal hematopoiesis and clonal cytopenias\, in addition to chronic lymphocytic leukemia and small lymphocytic lymphoma. She is heavily collaborative with her research endeavors\, and her research has been published in The Lancet\, New England Journal of Medicine\, Cell Stem Cell\, Nature Genetics\, Blood\, Journal of Clinical Oncology\, among others. She established a precursor clinic at UNC in 2020 where she focuses on seeing individuals with clonal hematopoiesis and clonal cytopenias.
