DESCRIPTION:John Buse\, MD\, PhD is the Verne S. Caviness Distinguished Professor\, Chief of the Division of Endocrinology\, Director of the Diabetes Center\, Director of the NC Translational and Clinical Sciences Institute and Senior Associate Dean for Clinical Research at the University of North Carolina (UNC) School of Medicine in Chapel Hill\, North Carolina. He received his MD and PhD from Duke University before training in internal medicine and endocrinology at the University of Chicago.  Dr Buse currently works with a team of investigators and study coordinators at UNC in the conduct of multicenter and single-site studies in the prevention and treatment of type 1 and 2 diabetes mellitus. Dr. Buse completed service as President for Medicine & Science at the American Diabetes Association in 2008. He has received numerous awards and honors\, including the 2010 Castle Connolly National Physician of the Year Award and the 2019 American Diabetes Association Outstanding Achievement in Clinical Diabetes Research Award. He has authored more than 500 publications. \n \nDr. Chaudhry is the James F. Howard Distinguished Professor\, Chief of Division of Neuromuscular Medicine\, and Vice Chair of Faculty Affairs at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill.  He is a fellow of the American Academy of Neurology and a fellow of the American Neurological Association.  Dr. Chaudhry graduated from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences\, New Delhi\, India\, following which he did training in U.K. leading to membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP).  His Neurology Residency took place at the Universities of Tennessee\, in Memphis\, and University of Alabama\, in Birmingham.  He then finished Neuromuscular Fellowship at the Johns Hopkins University and was faculty at that institution for 32 years during which he served as the Vice-Chair of Clinical Affairs\, Director of Johns Hopkins neurology outpatient center\, Director of Clinical Neurophysiology fellowship\, Director of Neuromuscular Medicine fellowship\, and Director of Neuromuscular Division at the Johns Hopkins Hospital.  Dr. Chaudhry is an adjunct Professor of Neurology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine\, Baltimore\, MD\, USA.  He has served on the Board of Directors for the American Academy of Neurology Board\, Chair of Neuromuscular section of American Academy of Neurology\, Board of Directors and Secretary of American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine.  Dr. Chaudhry has also served as President of the Aiimsonians of America (AOA) and Association of Indian Neurologists in America.  His research focus has been on Wallerian Degeneration in Human Nerves; defining clinical\, electrophysiological\, and IVIG responsiveness of Multifocal Motor Neuropathy (MMN); and chemotherapy-induced polyneuropathies (CIPN) from taxol\, vincristine\, suramin\, thalidomide\, and bortezomib.  He has authored 120 publications.  He has patent for Total Neuropathy Score (TNC©)\, an important tool for establishing the severity of CIPN. He is actively involved in trials of myasthenia gravis\, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis\, and amyloid neuropathy.   Dr. Chaudhry has received numerous awards and honors throughout his career including Frank R. Ford Outstanding Teaching Award John Hopkins University School of Medicine\, American Brain Foundation Lifetime Achievement Award (2018) and Distinguished Researcher Award from American Association of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine (2020). \n \nDr. Maryam Jowza is an anesthesiologist in Chapel Hill\, North Carolina and is affiliated with multiple hospitals in the area\, including University of North Carolina Hospitals and Chatham Hospital UNC Health Care. She received her medical degree from Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and has been in practice between 11-20 years. \n \nDr. Krishna is a board-certified neurosurgeon-scientist with a specialization in functional neurosurgery. He performs surgical procedures to modulate the function of the brain\, spinal cord\, and nerves to treat conditions like neuropathic pain\, essential tremor\, Parkinson’s disease\, and depression. His research is focused on optimizing the neurosurgical treatments and testing emerging interventions in clinical trials.
