SUMMARY:DOM Grand Rounds- Dr. Janet Rubin presents: "Why Exercise Works."
DESCRIPTION:Janet Rubin MD\, is a Sarah Graham Kenan Professor of Medicine\, Vice Chair for Research in the Department of Medicine at the University of North Carolina @ Chapel Hill and an endocrinologist who specializes in treating patients with metabolic disorders of bone. \nDr. Rubin’s research aims to understand molecular mechanisms by which physical forces regulate the behavior of cells involved in bone remodeling. This research has led her lab into studies of mesenchymal cell cytoskeleton and nuclear structure\, which serve as paradigms for effects of the mechanical environment on all cells.  The lab has contributed to more than 160 published articles and has been continuously federally funded since 1985. \nDr. Rubin further works within the Department of Medicine to ensure the success of junior physician-scientists and to improve and empower the scientific presence of research faculty in our 400+ faculty academic operation.  Her work helping junior scientists to write excellent grants is one of her points of greatest pride. \n  \nEmail: jrubin@med.unc.edu \nResearch information: https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Janet-Rubin \n
