Welcome to the UNC Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology!<\/strong><\/div>\n

On our website, you will learn about our\u00a0clinical<\/a>,\u00a0research, and\u00a0<\/a>education programs<\/a>, as well as general information about\u00a0our faculty<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0our division<\/a>. We are proud of the work that we are doing and thank you for your interest in UNC GI.<\/p>\n

While you are visiting us on the web, please look over the services we provide in our 3 procedure units, as well as in our specialty clinics. If you are a patient coming for a procedure, a visit to our \u201cFrequently Asked Questions<\/a>\u201d page will fill you in on what to expect, and provide tips to make your visit go smoothly. If you have a gastrointestinal or liver condition, and would like to consult with one of our physicians,\u00a0our\u202ffaculty<\/a>\u00a0page\u202fwill help you and your caregiver choose the right clinician for you. Referring physicians will find simple instructions for how to have your patients seen at UNC in the\u202f\u201cPatient Care<\/a>\u201d section.<\/p>\n

With over $30million in\u202fresearch\u202ffunding, and over 300 papers in scientific journals annually, the Division is a national leader in research in gastrointestinal and liver diseases. The Division serves as the clinical home for the\u00a0Center for Gastrointestinal Biology and Disease<\/a>, a federally-funded center in the U.S. focusing on research in GI diseases.<\/p>\n

The Division runs 3\u202fcore fellowship\u202ftraining programs: a\u00a0clinical training program<\/a>, a\u00a0clinical outcomes and epidemiology training program<\/a>, and a\u00a0basic science training program<\/a>. The latter two programs are funded by the National Institutes of Health, making the division one of the few in the U.S. with federally-funded training programs in both clinical and basic science. Using unique resources including our nationally-acclaimed Gillings School of Public Health, the Center for Gastrointestinal Biology and Disease, and UNC\u2019s NIH-funded Clinical and Translational Sciences Award Center, the Division provides an enriched environment to launch an academic career. Advanced training fellowships are offered in\u00a0advanced endoscopy<\/a>,\u00a0third space endoscopy<\/a>, transplant hepatology<\/a>, esophageal diseases, and\u00a0advanced inflammatory bowel disease<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Division is a national leader in clinical trials and clinical outcomes research in various GI and liver diseases. These cutting-edge research initiatives are available for patients seen across our clinical care sites.<\/p>\n
