UNC\u2019s School of Medicine is pleased to offer a one-year advanced endoscopy fellowship that offers comprehensive ERCP and EUS training, as well as a potpourri of other advanced endoscopic procedures.<\/p>\n

The advanced fellow receives extensive training and exposure to a wide range of procedures and cutting-edge techniques. Fellows are taught by five experienced therapeutic endoscopy faculty members (Todd Baron<\/a>, Lisa Gangarosa<\/a>, Andrew Gilman<\/a>, Ian Grimm<\/a>, and Kelly Hathorn<\/a>). The advanced fellow is encouraged to participate in as many complex endoscopic cases as possible.<\/p>\n

Graduating fellows can expect to perform at least 400-500 EUS and ERCPs and gain ample exposure to treatment of complex pancreaticobiliary disorders (including pancreatic necrosis, pseudocysts and pancreatic strictures) as well as newer interventional EUS-guided therapeutic techniques. Fellows are also exposed to advanced endoscopic techniques for managing large polyps, palliating gastrointestinal malignancies, treating complex strictures and Zenker\u2019s diverticula, as well as performing celiac plexus neurolysis, deep enteroscopy with single balloon, and direct jejunal tube placement.<\/p>\n

The advanced fellow\u2019s education and training is augmented by consultative patient care responsibilities. Under the supervision of the five advanced endoscopy attending physicians, the advanced fellow coordinates the inpatient advanced endoscopy consultation service with a nurse practitioner. Additional patient care is provided with one half-day of continuity clinic per week and as a general endoscopy attending one half-day per week. Clinical research in advanced endoscopy is available and strongly encouraged.<\/p>\n
