Welcome to the Pawlinski Lab in the Division of Hematology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

All About Us

Our lab is interested in the role of coagulation proteases in the pathology of cardiovascular diseases, hematologic disorders and neuroinflammation.

In addition to playing an important role in hemostasis and thrombosis, coagulation proteases induce various cellular responses via proteolytical cleavage of protease-activated receptors (PARs). We are especially interested in the role of PARs in mediating the crosstalk between coagulation and inflammation. Using both in vitro and in vivo approaches, we are trying to understand the molecular mechanism by which PARs contribute to the pathophysiology of myocardial infarction, ischemia-reperfusion injury-induced heart remodeling, sickle cell disease, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
