Travel Clinic appointments are available to established UNC Internal Medicine Eastowne and Panther Creek patients ONLY.<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Let us help you plan for safe and healthy travel. International travel carries risks, but many of those risks can be mitigated by taking a few precautions. Our doctors will help you decide which immunizations and medications will be right for you. Immunizations given before departure can prevent hepatitis, typhoid fever, yellow fever and Japanese encephalitis. Medications can prevent malaria, shorten the course of travelers\u2019 diarrhea and reduce your risk of altitude sickness. We will give you the advice you need to choose the treatments that will be best for you and help ensure you have a healthy trip and enjoy your travels.<\/p>\n

Travel Clinic Appointments:<\/h3>\n

Currently, many of our visits to give travel health advice are virtual video visits (preferred) instead of in person. You will be able to complete a Travel E-Visit through My UNC Chart (Sign up for My UNC Chart<\/span><\/a>). This questionnaire will ask you about your itinerary, proposed activities, medical history, medications, and vaccines. You will receive a reply via MyChart from our travel expert, giving you advice on travel, including necessary medications and vaccines.<\/p>\n

Travel clinic visits can also be offered in-person but is at a higher cost. These in-person travel clinic appointments can be made by calling UNC Internal Medicine Clinic at 984-974-4462.<\/p>\n

Travel health advice visits, both e-visit and in-person visits, are not covered by insurance and payment is expected at the date of the visit. Immunizations that are administered are billed through your insurance.<\/p>\n

When vaccines are recommended, they can be received at a follow up appointment at our clinic on the 6th<\/sup> floor of Eastowne building, 100 Eastowne Drive, Chapel Hill, NC 27514.<\/p>\n

To prepare for your visit:<\/h4>\n
    \n
  1. Know your itinerary. We need to know what countries you are visiting, and which countries you will travel through in order to get to your destination. \u00a0In some cases we need to know what regions of a country you will visit.<\/li>\n
  2. Have your immunization record available. If you don\u2019t have one, contact your doctor\u2019s office and ask for a record of all your immunizations.<\/li>\n
  3. Try to make your appointment at least 4-6 weeks before you travel.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div>\n

    Payment policy:<\/h4>\n

    Keep in mind that some insurance policies may not cover the cost of a visit for travel advice or for travel immunizations. We are making every effort to keep down costs, but in the case that these costs are not covered by insurance, you will be expected to pay the necessary fees.<\/p>\n

        Yellow Fever Vaccine<\/h4>\n

        The yellow fever vaccine is currently available in the United States, and we offer them in our clinic. It is also available at Campus Health Services<\/a> for UNC.\u00a0 Yellow Fever vaccine needs to be given only once in a lifetime, though if traveling to a place with an ongoing outbreak, a booster can be given if the first yellow fever vaccine was given more than 10 years prior.<\/p>\n
