UNAN-León
Dr. Bowman, along with other UNC faculty (Aravinda da Silva, Elizabeth Stringer, and Sylvia Becker-Dreps), collaborates with researchers at UNAN-León to study the epidemiology and immunology of viral gastroenteritis in children. The group is also starting two cohort studies to examine various aspects of Zika virus, including epidemiology, compartmentalization in different body fluids, and pregnancy outcomes. UPCH is one of Peru’s premier medical and biomedical universities and home to the Laboratory of Investigation of Infectious Diseases. The lab processes and stores samples for Dr. Bowman’s studies of Chagas disease and toxoplasmosis; housing state-of-the art molecular and immunological equipment and is headed by Dr. Bob Gilman and a dynamic team of Peruvian scientists:
